The first phase of the Influenza pandemic struck during late spring of 1918 where it would infect people seemingly out of nowhere and without any warning. Its first sightings were named the "three-day fever" and it resulted only a few reported deaths, with the rest of the victims recovering after few days.

The second phase of the Influenza virus began in fall of the same year where the same virus that had struck a few months earlier resurfaced now being far more deadly than it had been before. Victims now infected with the second phase of this virus would die with days or even hours. This was because the virus caused a build up of liquid in the lungs in its victims which ended up being very lethal, suffocating its victims to death.

As stated before the Influenza virus killed its victims by suffocating them to death. The virus spread all across the globe and had the greatest effect on urban and rural areas. Mortality rates for adults, children, and the elderly were all shockingly high with out of the 500,000,000 people infected which was about one fourth of the world's population at the time, 50,000,000 people ended up dying.

I chose to do this project because around 100 years after the Influenza Pandemic of 1918, we still don't fully understand what properties gave this virus the destructive powers that it had, and if the virus ever reemerges, we don't have a cure for it, which considering how many people it killed is somewhat intimidating.
