Within the classroom, I can see Flocabulary being used two ways: as an activator/ discussion piece or as a center. I would personally use it as both because I think that it would be a great way to introduce a lesson. I also think that once the video has been shown, sharing it with the students for a center allows them to work at their own pace. The quiz and Read & Respond are automatically graded and allow both myself and the student to see how they performed and what else needs to be reviewed or retaught. Additionally, the video has 3 speeds which is great for students who may want to slow down the rap. The website also suggests other ways of implementing this app within the classroom.

The app is very engaging with its cheery and adventurous music. Prodigy is used to strengthen or test students' skills in math, but through a video game format where students get to create a character and battle creatures. Their battle consists of answering math questions and if they answer correctly, they deal damage to the creature they are battling. For teachers, they can assign assessments and identify where students strengths and weaknesses are and use this to determine what they need to reteach, who they need to help, or where they can advance in knowledge or identify who they can challenge.

-Engaging: it is presented as an adventure game for students
-Simplicity: there is a simple element to both the teacher and student accounts (I created both for myself so I could speak more on it) For students, all of the text is large and read aloud to them. Additionally, students can click on the speaker icon when they are given a question and it will read the question and choices aloud to them. There are arrows and aids that help students navigate through their adventure.
-Virtual Manipulatives: students have access to manipulatives to aid them in solving their math problems. These tools are on the same screen as their problem and there is also a drawing tool.
-Correct/Incorrect: students are able to see that their answer is either correct or incorrect and there doesn't appear to be any huge consequences if their answer is incorrect (my character is still alive!).

-Knowledge: Prodigy just asks students math questions. There are no videos or tutorials. So either the students know how to answer the question or they don't. This could be troubling for students with low self-esteem or students who struggle with certain math skills.
-Emphasis on Game: As I played, I did just that, I played. There is a storyline and so the game takes you through that story and you get some problems here and there to solve. This could potentially be more distracting them educational and a good chunk of a students' math rotation could be spent going through a storyline instead of practicing skills.

MyOn is a program that provides students with online books. Prior to reading anything, students take a questionnaire that asks them about the type of texts they like to read and they answer some comprehension questions. There are various genres and the books are leveled by guided reading levels and lexile levels. Students have access to their own dashboard that shows them their progress. Additionally, the app (depending on teacher settings) will read the text to them aloud, highlight one word at a time, or highlight an entire sentence at a time. There are also comprehension questions that students are asked after reading a certain amount of texts.

I could use MyOn as a center, guided reading, or for research projects. Students can quietly read to themselves, or students who struggle to read can have the text read aloud to them. Students who are Spanish speaking have a bilingual option and so my ESOL students (Spanish speaking only) can listen in Spanish. I can also assign guided reading groups specific, leveled texts that we can use within class and discuss. I can also create a project where I choose books, write my directions, and attach assignments for students to complete. I can also search for projects that other teachers have created and share them with my class.

-Premium Features: it is upsetting that the other features are not available unless you buy them. I get it, but I think they would be great for students to access.
-Translator: maybe it is just my computer, but it is not working for me and is continually loading. This may just be a bug that needs to be fixed.
-Specific Clicking: if you don't click on a specific word or sentence, the program just starts reading from the beginning of the page- which for some sites is the login.

-Read-Aloud: the fact that the text is read to students is beneficial because they can utilize this for their writing to hear their work read to them.
-Highlighting: as the text is being read, the words are also being highlighted. This is great for students to keep track of the text and even better for lower level readers who may need to hear and see the word.
-Practice Read Aloud: students get the chance to read aloud into their mics and listen back to what they just read. This is great for practicing fluency.

Depending on which version you have based on what you've spent, depends on what it does.
For the free version (and the only one I can play with right now), you are able to have the program read text to you. You can pause or stop the reading at any time. There is also "Hover Speech," where if you have this enabled, you can have the speaker read the text that you are hovering over. You can also just highlight the word(s) or sentence(s) that you want read to you and click the play button and the program will read to you. I also noticed that there is a translator button, but this was not loading for me. Lastly on the free version, I noticed a button for reading aloud. Students can record themselves reading and listen back to what they read.

Since I would only have the free option, I would have students use this primarily during writing, but I could also have them use it when they complete written responses in reading. My students struggle with going back and re-reading their work, but I feel that if their work is being read back to them, they will hear any mistakes that they may have made while typing. Essentially, in writing, students would use this tool to first hear their writing before moving on to a peer-review partner. I could also use it for ESOL students because it reads webpages to them in addition to Google Docs/ Slides and PDFs. This way they are not just staring at a screen and trying to decipher what the text is saying (not to say that the read-aloud wouldn't also cause issues). For the read aloud option, I love that I could have students read aloud and listen back to how they read. This will allow them to practice their fluency and improve how they are reading.
*I do know that within my school, students with IEPs and 504s have an upgraded version of this app on their Chromebooks. This would open a whole new way of how I could use this app!
