For an elementary education major, there isn't a lot of diversity in the types of jobs you could get but there are many grade levels you can teach, including 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I believe you need a special certificate or license to teach kindergarten.

My aunt is a kindergarten teacher and I have always wanted to do what she does. Whenever I go to her classroom and watch what she does every day, I get excited because that is what I will be doing in a few years.

When I was a kid, my favorite pastime was playing school in my basement. I had worksheets, name tags, and just about everything you could possibly need. Teaching has always been a passion of mine.

Shadowing

I plan to go to my aunt's classroom over winter break to get more experience working in classrooms and with children. In the past, I have done some shadowing as a TA in a high school class as well as at a preschool program.

Research

Writing

Being able to write will be an essential skill I will use daily as a teacher. Making lesson plans and presentations, sending emails to coworkers, administrators, and parents, and even making sub plans for when I will be gone.
