The blogging website Wordpress has been extremely useful during the Research, Planning and Evaluation Stages. It allowed me to present my posts in visually engaging ways with the easy ability of embedding files from websites like Prezi or Padlet. An aesthetically pleasing approach was successful because it allowed me to present my findings and research in an interactive way (through moving slides) with the ability to insert images or videos as examples. Therefore, each post was far more visual so allowed me to present my ideas clearer than I would had I used an essay format.

Embedding projects from other sites into my blog was very easy. I used 'i-frame' files for this (note the two photos attached with highlighted sections) which was definitely an advantage during the research and planning stage because it allowed me to quickly and without much effort publish each post onto my blog. Examples of presentation sites that I used are Prezi, Emaze, Padlet, Canva and Microsoft PowerPoint. All of these allowed me to visually present my findings or planning as well as having the 'i-frame' embedding format.

Wordpress also gave people the ability to comment on my posts. This allowed me to gain audience feedback from people like my teacher or my peers to give insight as to how I could improve my posts to make the construction of my products more realistic and conventional. As a result, I have grown and discovered different things about the pop genre throughout the coursework stage so that the construction of all three products could be the most conventional they could be. (Please see attached below an example of a comment on a post)

Using the calendar app allowed me to create timed events that acted as a schedule for the day of shooting my music video. Doing this electronically rather than on paper allowed me to keep referring to the schedule throughout the shoot day without the information getting lost or destroyed. It also allowed me to stay on time and ensure the shoot day was spent wisely and that no time was wasted.

Once I had shot the footage for the music video and gained the images for the digipak and magazine advert, I had to organise my shots to ensure that I could quickly and easily see which shots were successful that I would consider using, and which ones were not successful and needed to be deleted or not used. I did this in a folder on an Apple iMac. Using this application allowed me to categorise the shots into different folders, such as 'Drama Studio Shots', 'Photography Studio Shots' and 'Warehouse Shots'. This allowed me to quickly find the shots from different locations that I needed whilst editing. Then, I categorised them by naming them either good, or bad with explanations of what was not successful. As a result, I could use my time effectively by not having to constantly watch the shots to decipher whether they were appropriate to use or not. The folder application on the Apple iMac also allowed me to categorise these shots which ultimately allowed me to use my time more wisely. (See photos attached).

During the construction stage of my digipak and magazine advert, I used both Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop. Using these two applications allowed me to take the original photos for the two products and manipulate them to make them more conventional to the Pop genre. For example, I found that some of the shots were too warm in colour whereas the Pop genre usually has cooler, white and blue backgrounds. So, I used the colour manipulation tool in Photoshop to adjust the colour of the photographs. I watches several tutorials on YouTube on how to use this tool effectively, and then applied this knowledge to my own photos by adjusting the red, magneta and blue levels (see photo attached) which gave the photos more of a blue undertone. Then, I adjusted the brightness and contrast of the photographs to give them more of a faded, cool toned effect (see photos attached). By doing this, the shots could become more cool in colour which linked well with the blue sans serif bold font and the convention of cooler colours in digipaks and magazine adverts of the pop genre.

Adobe Premiere Pro

The application Premiere Pro was very useful during the editing stage of my music video. It provided me with advanced tools like a colour manipulator (which I used after audience feedback told me that the photography studio shots were too warm in colour in comparison to the rest of the video) and the text tool. The text tool was very useful at the beginning of the music video where I inserted the song title of 'I Can Feel It' along with the artist name and separate text that said 'Directed by Nat Berry'. The text tool in Adobe Premiere Pro was more effective for my music video because it allowed me to make the text abruptly snap into the frame without any kind of a fade or dissolve effect that had to be used in other video editing software like iMovie. The instant snap in of text at the beginning of a music video to introduce the song name and artist name is very conventional to the Pop genre because it creates an energetic and upbeat atmosphere that relates well to a younger, more energetic audience who would want to be engaged in the video from the very beginning. Therefore, Premiere Pro allowed me to do this successfully so that the levels of verisimilitude were raised in my music video to make it even more conventional to the genre.

When taking the photographs for the digipak and magazine advert, I used a Nikon D3000 camera. This digital SLR allowed me to take high-quality shots; high-quality is vital to the Pop genre which conventionally is big-budget so produces very perfect products. The D3000 also allowed me to insert a Sandisk Memory Card which meant I could take a huge number of shots without running out of space. This meant that I had a wide variety of shots to choose from, which can be seen in posts like 'Organisation of Film Footage', so that i could choose the best shots, meaning that I wouldn't have to revisit the location and shoot again. My time was therefore used wisely and effectively. However, a challenge that I did face was the battery life of the camera. I found that the camera seemed to die very quickly meaning that I had to keep using different batteries which wasted a little bit of time on the shoot days. In future, I would try to use a camera that held a better battery life or find a battery that kept its charge for longer so that my time wouldn't be wasted on small things like this.
