Letters emerge us in the WW2 world by showing the heavy German censorship and the status of Daniel LeBlanc. It connects us to characters we are not present with. It also allows audiences to interpret the text on their own rather through the bias of the narrator.

Every chapter is focusing on a specific moment in time, even going back and forth over time periods. All the chapters are very short and concentrate on individual scenes to keep the reader interested while switching between different character perspectives.

In the novel, the characters are both trapped in the same situation and both face similar challenges and losses. They are both trapped in the dark, they both lose their guardian figures, and they both realize there is no way out, physically and mentally.

It helps the reader engage more with the parallels between Marie-Laure and Werner. It also amplifies the contrast between their past lives and the ones they are living in the midst of war. It emphasizes the destruction that war causes and puts the reader on edge for the peaceful scenes of the novel, knowing that things will get much worse very quickly.

The novel shows two sides of the war but gradually connects both sides through imagery, symbols, and the characters.

Werner and Marie-Laure are connected through the French voice that teaches--Etienne. Werner and Jutta are inspired by the radio Etienne podcasted, meanwhile Marie-Laure loves and adores Etienne as her great-uncle and advisor.
