How I played as a child

I loved playing “explorers in the jungle” in our garden. I had a thing for Pippi Longsock, the wild, free and smart daughter of a pirate. I always loved being the “wild and strong one”. In games with other children, e.g. when we played cowboys vs. native Americans, I was one of the strong and fierce Native Americans.

Today I still have an unsatiable curiosity to “explore” things, to put myself into unknown situations, jump into cold water, to learn new things, to get to know new places, be physically active and also, to lean in for a just world. I loved fighting on the side of the underdog, literally, in our childhood fights and it unleashed unbelievable power and energy that kept me going for hours.

I guess this would fits well into the work of an anthropologist, or researcher in general, working in social entrepreneurship, social venture building, or in human rights.

- Lea

I am still open for new knowledge but a lack of time makes it difficult. Structuring and organising is for sure one of my strengths. I like to interact and build up a network in a limited way. If I stand for something and it is part of my values I will fight for it as long as I can. To experience and give inspiration is one of the greatest things. I like to be good in something but I know that there are people who are better. More important is to empower people around me to the best version of themselves.

I played a lot outdoors when I was young. I loved running or games that involved running. I loved being fast in whatever I did. I used to go out to catch the dragonflies with friends. I liked being closer to nature. We used to go outside to play seven stones, jump off small hills/cliffs, collect wildflowers. I also liked playing chess and ludo and the feeling of winning was awesome. I did not take losing in chess too well though. I liked carrom board games as well. I also liked being a class captain, so that I could give orders, but initially I was not very good at it. Whatever I played outdoor or indoor games, I felt great finishing the task until the end and winning or getting to the next phase/ level in the game. I liked building new things, useful things using spare things at home. I liked painting the wall of my room. I like rearranging my room and other rooms in the house. I also used to protect the people who were bullied and always stood for what I thought was right even when I was the only one and no one talked to me for taking that stand. I liked solving complex problems whether it’s math, puzzle, or riddles.

Also I saw my self as an inventor or a scientist who can build things to help people. I was used to play with lego, an aeroplace and loved jumping from the stairs and challenging myself to jump higher everytime.
I still like to help people, making people life easy, be the source of joy and smile for the world.

I remember the day I got my first calculator. It was a birthday gift from my uncle, who was an accountant. He said it was a special calculator, with many functions and features. He showed me how to use it, and I was fascinated.

I loved playing with the calculator. I would make up math problems and solve them. I would try different operations and see the results. I would compare the calculator with my math textbook and check my answers. I felt like a genius.

But the calculator was not just a toy. It was also a tool. I used it to help my parents with their finances. They owned a small grocery store, and they had to keep track of their income and expenses. I would help them count the money, record the transactions, and calculate the profit. I would also give them suggestions on how to save money, invest money, and grow their business. They were proud of me and my skills.

I wanted to be an accountant when I grew up. I wanted to help people and organizations with their money matters. I wanted to be smart, reliable, and successful. I wanted to be like my uncle.

But I also had other dreams. I wanted to travel the world and see different places. I wanted to learn about different cultures and people. I wanted to make a difference in the world. I wanted to be a leader.

I loved reading books and magazines about the world. I would learn about different countries, regions, and continents. I would learn about their history, geography, economy, and society. I would learn about their problems, challenges, and opportunities. I would imagine myself visiting those places, meeting those people, and solving those problems.

I also loved drawing and painting. I would express my creativity and imagination through my artwork. I would draw maps, landscapes, and characters. I would draw scenes from the books and magazines I read. I would draw my dreams and aspirations. I would draw myself as an accountant, a traveler, a leader.

These are some of the things I liked to be as a child. I was curious, ambitious, and passionate. I was an Extremer in the making. 🚀📊

When I was a child, I was really empathic, sensitive and emotional. I wanted everyone to feel loved and included. I dreamed of becoming the best teacher to young children and helping them become whatever they wanted to. I loved playing with other children in the neighborhood, whether it was with Barbies or sports. I always had a calling for fairness, yet my quiet and shy demeanor often prevented me from speaking out. I had a vivid imagination where I saw animals, bugs, clouds, inanimate items come to life. I was extremely intuitive and had a sixth sense connection.
