1. Colonial roads were poor. Shipping across the Atlantic ocean was cheaper than sending overland. As a result a brisk European trade developed.
2. There were small farms for small farmers and big farms for regular farmers
3. To trade from place to place most people if not all of the colonists used ships to go across oceans to trade
4. The middle colonies had rich soil, a good growing season, and a number of large rivers like the south. Farming flourished in the region.
5. The farmers however didn't live in small villages or in grand plantations. Instead, many of them lived on farms that extended inland from the seacoast.

The New England colonies promoted mass manufacturing, causing the areas that were the New England colonies to have big cities, and large business that started in those areas. The Southern colonies promoted mass farming, causing those areas in the present-day United States have a large farming industry, and a large fruit industry. The Middle colonies promoted middle-sized farming and manufacturing, making those areas in the present-day United States have small trading, and manufacturing centers, along with a decent number of farms.

What I learned from these colonies impacts multiple aspects of today's cultural life.
1. New England impacted large amounts of religion in the united states. Without religion, some people may feel lost in our country, if we didn't allow the idea of religious freedom, America could be way different
2. The middle colonies support the large diversity of people that America is all about. If everyone in the country was from England, there would most likely be no continental and ethnic diversity, removing another piece of American culture.
3. The southern colonies taught about the problems of racism and the subjects of the horrible topic. If the southern colonies didn't believe or use slaves, there may not have been such things as the civil war or more recent topics like BLM. If we don't educate ourselves, stuff like racism spreads.

Geography gave the colonies a basis to start their colony and food to survive. Some had to change their land a bit to make it suitable and others had it perfect from the start. A part of geography is soil, farm land, forests, and hills, and this is also some of what geography impacts or affects. Without good soil, farming would be a lot harder, especially to get great, healthy, and fresh grains. Farm land can't have trees like a forest would, and it can't be hilly. Farm land has to be flat in order for it to be farm able and provide food that you can eat. Now that you have some background, I can answer the question. How did geography play a role in how people lived? To create grains that you can eat, you need farm able land, and good soil, which is, again, part of geography like I said before. Geography plays the important role of growing crops. How you grow crops is by having soil, land, and water. Geography provides all of this. You of course need food to survive and that is how you get it. The colonists also sold some of the grains that they grew which helps them buy other foods, shelter, and water to survive. If geography was bad, then the human lives living with it would suffer too. Geography isn't just land, it is also climate. It is important to have good climate to survive and again grow good crops.

It changed the way they lived by being a part of how they did things for example if they had really rocky land like New England it would be harder to transport goods than in the Southern Colonies. If they had good rich soil it would provide better food and the crops would grow healthier. The temperature also played a role in how people lived, if it was cold often they would live in more insulated houses but if it was hot they would want many windows, and not thick insulated houses. They were also able to make money because of the crops they planted, it also helped because they had rich soil. Climate also played a role in how people lived. All of these things play a role in how people live because in order to do one thing you have to make sure the other things aren't going to be their way. For example, if the climate is too hot or too cold it might affect how they travel, meaning instead of going by the river (which was cheaper) they might have had to go by the more expensive thing which is take away the money they worked for, by selling the crops.

I learned about some of their daily life, government, society, geography, economics, slavery, and religion. These different things I learn impact American culture today because some of the things they did then, we picked up from and do now. We also improved and developed more of what they did into better. We first produced food my farming, yet we still do, but now we have improved the production of food into manufactures and machines to make different types of food. These different types of food interest more people to buy, which impacts the money we make. The religion people believe in was created near that time period. Without the creation of different religions we would only have the choice of probably 1-3 religions to choose from. Now, we have many different religions and beliefs that we can freely believe. A fun fact is we didn't just pick up on farming and things related/like that, we also picked up on their daily life. Their daily life was mostly filled with farming and religion which is what we have as a part of our day today (Not all of us farm though). Have you ever thought what the world would be like if slavery still happened today? The ending of slavery also impacts American culture today because if ti were still going on, societies daily life would be different. American culture was shaped and impacted from the things we learn now and learned from the past.
