Potatoes have affected society very much. They have stimulated population growth, had good results in greater food productions, and gave people the chance to make new food with potatoes. Over time potatoes have developed in many different shapes. The Inca Indians in Peru were the first to grow potatoes and soon it started to spread all over. Potatoes have developed to make new recipes and to help the population.

Tomatoes were the first food crop with an edible fruit where this was possible. It has affected society by helping farmers reduce their environmental footprint by allowing them to use fewer inputs and enabling a shift to reduced tillage. These practices have led to less time spent on a tractor, less fuel used and fewer emissions.

Over time, potatoes have been genetically modified in different ways. One way is through genetic engineering through RNAi. It was modified so that they don't bruise as much when damaged. This way also alters the amount of acrylamide released when cooked. They've been modified this way since the 1990s, but potatoes have been being genetically modified since 1946.

Most of the genetic modification methods are commonly used in bananas in developed in the 1990s, including protoplast electroportion, particle bombardment, and agrobacterium. The genetic modification has shown that in Australia, these banana trees can now resist this deadly fungus that causes the Panama disease. This disease have devastated banana crops in countries such as Asia, Africa, and Australia. It also a major threat to farmers in America. The banana industry consumes more agrochemicals than any other in the world, beside cotton. Agrochemical uses pollutes water supplies, contaminates soils, and can have devastating workers' health. However, bananas have a low enviromental impact. Why?It's due to their low carbon footprint.

Corn has been genetically modified, for example scientists gave them the ability to make protein that kills make different kinds of insects. It has also been genetically engineered to resist herbicides. Corn has been enhanced to bt corn, bt stands for Bacillus thuringiensis, which is a natural microorganism to protect the corn from insects.
