Learnings: We have learnt what makes a healthy breakfast. A good breakfast is one that supplies protein, such as eggs and dairy products like milk and yoghurt, especially Greek yoghurt. A good breakfast also supplies a good combination of fibre and complex carbohydrates, such as wholegrain cereals and oats. The proteins facilitates muscle reconditioning, which can help to improve exercising efficiency, while carbohydrates gives us the main source of energy to carry out strenuous workouts and activities.

Reflections: We felt that it was actually quite fun to research about having a healthy breakfast because it was a topic we were familiar with, and looking at healthier breakfast options was fun and felt appetising. However, one part we that was hard about our research was accidentally plagiarising. This was because we searched on some Google websites for the information and were afraid of accidentally coping too much. However, we solved this issue by summarising all that we have read without the use of AI.

Does physical activity improves academic performances?

Learnings: We have learnt that physical activity can improve academic performance. For example, physical activity can enhance your memory. By doing regular exercises, it stimulates the growth of new brain cells, particularly in the hippocampus which is an important brain structure that converts short-term memories into long-term memories, and is involved in memory formation which one of the crucial things that helps you to improve on your academic performances. Another important benefit on why physical activity can improve on your academic performance is it helps to reduced stress and improves your mood. Physical activity releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting and stress-reducing effect in your body so that you won’t get so stressed especially during the exam periods. Lastly, if we exercise regularly, it sharpens our focus and improves our concentration. Physical activity increases blood flow to the brain, which delivers more oxygen and nutrients, which can enhance cognitive function, including focus and giving our fullest attention in class so that we won’t miss key information that is important for our exams. In conclusion, there are so many benefits on how physical activity can improve academic performance and these are just a few of them.

Reflections: To be honest, we did not know that there were so many benefits on how physical activity can improve academic performance! Most of us tend to neglect physical activity in order to improve on our academic performance. Sometimes, we also think that PE, isn’t really important at all. But in reality, we actually need to do physical activity such as maybe a simple five minute work out activity or a jog in your nearby park so that we can focus more in class and improves our memory. We enjoyed finding out facts in videos and in articles that changed our perspective on our research problem statement. But the thing we found it hard to do was to actually try to not accidentally plagiarise things we found on the internet. We ended up summarising everything and changing some of the sentences we found in google to make it simpler and easier for people to understand.

Learnings: We have learnt about ratio between the energy we take in (by eating) and the calories we burn (during PE). You see, even though we have to eat to gain energy to carry out activities, we must have a balance between the food that we consume and how long we exercise, or else that will lead to obesity or other health problems. Even though it is generally fine to to eat more calories than you burn, gaining too much calories can lead to obesity, fatty liver and joint problems due to the increased weight you take on. Furthermore, your insulin resistance might weaken over time, with potentially leads to type 2 diabetes! For the average person, the ratio of food to exercise burn is about 4:1, and most people eat 3-5 times more calories than they can burn though exercise! However, for most people, exercise only accounts for only 10% - 30% of calorie burn, which means that calories can also be burnt through basic body functions, such as standing, walking, fidgeting or even talking. However, burning too much calories can result in weaken immunity, so the ratio of calories consumed has to be slightly more than the calories burned.

Reflections: The research and learning for this was harder than the previous time because it was harder to dive deeper and find more information about this specific subject, and researching this involves a lot of numbers, and we also had to search from different websites and average out the answers to find a reliable answer. However, this was also more fun than the other time we did research because we were more informed on how much we had to eat and balance, and looking at the health risks motivated us to make sure that we take care of our diet. All in all, this research allowed us to absorb more information, and the experience of learning was hard but fun.

Learnings: We have learnt that physical activities boosts brain function, improves cognitive abilities and enhances overall well-being. This leads to better academic performance. Exercising enhances attention, memory and focus while reducing stress which can positively influence academic outcomes. Physical activity can increase blood flow to the brain and deliver more oxygen and nutrients which are crucial for brain function. This improved circulation supports growth of new neural connections which are vital for learning. Exercising regularly improves alertness, attention and concentration, making it easier for students to learn. Exercising helps to manage stress and anxiety. It also improves mood and overall well-being. By incorporating physical activity into our daily life, we can improve in our academic performance and enhance our overall well-being.

Reflections: While doing our research, we got to dive deeper into how physical activity improves our academic performance. We did not know that physical activity not only keeps us fit but also improves our academic performance. Reading up about physical activity was very interesting to us as we have never really wondered how it benefits us.

During sleeping, our body uses up most of the energy before sleep, so thats why in the morning we are gloomy. So, if we skip breakfast, we will have low energy, which can make us dizzy and have headaches or stomachaches due to long periods of no food. Food refills our energy and just a simple bread and milk could be good already, as bread contains carbohydrates and milk contains milk which helps our body. If we continue to skip breakfast before pe, our body can start to develop sicknesses that we wont like, as one simple laziness can lead to a major symptom and we wouldnt want that.

reflections:

we will start and continue to eat breakfast before school not just pe

since we dont want any bad sickness, we must follow our learnings and consume breakfast

even just a simple bread and milk is good

we should have meals as it refills our energy

For people who still refuses to eat breakfast due to lack of time or laziness should choose to sleep early and wake up early!

Learnings: We learnt how important it is to eat enough before doing anything physically or mentally demanding, like working out or starting the day. When we don’t fuel our bodies properly, we can feel dizzy, tired, moody, and find it harder to concentrate. Our muscles don’t recover well, and simple tasks can feel much harder. Over time, this can lead to muscle loss, weaker bones, hormone issues, and even slow down growth and brain development—especially for teenagers. We also learnt that food isn’t just about not being hungry. It provides us the energy we need to stay focused, strong, and healthy. Eating before and after activity helps our bodies perform better and recover faster.

Reflections: It was harder to decide what we should learn because most of the points were already covered. It felt like we were repeating some of the points we mentioned in our previous learning and it’s also hard to do the reflection because we dont really know what to say. All in all, we still managed to learn the importance of consuming food before activities, so it was a productive research.

Choice of mode of presentation: Canva Slides

Learnings: We have learnt that physical activity improves our academic performances by enhancing cognition has to do with our blood flow. Research shows that when we exercise, blood pressure and blood flow increase everywhere in the body, including the brain. More blood means more energy and oxygen, which makes our brain perform better in class and helps to improve our academic performance. Another reason for why exercising enhances our mental capacity is that the hippocampus, a part of the brain critical for learning and memory, is very active during exercise.Research shows that our cognitive function improves, when the neurons, also known as the nerve cells, in this structure rev up. Recent work indicates that aerobic exercise such as running or swimming can actually reverse hippocampal shrinkage which can help you remember better especially in class.

Reflection: We learnt more facts on why physical activity is crucial and can help us to improve our academic performance through watching videos, reading articles and googling terms and words that we have never heard of before.Did you know another study found out that students who exercise perform better on tests than their less athletic peers? We were so shocked about that fact! Usually most of us neglect our sports activities or exercising due to the fact that we think that it will cause us distraction and make us fail our exams but actually, it’s the opposite. It helps us better! Overall, we have learnt that physical activity helps to improve our academic performance!

As someone who has suffered the consequences of not doing so, we will gladly explain why it is important to do so. Breakfast plays a hide role in keeping our blood sugar levels steady and energy high throughout the day. Not doing so could result in a decline in performance during the lesson and more problems later on. It also help students to stay focused all throughout the day, not just PE lesson. Our body needs energy to run, so let it have sufficient to help it run throughout the day.

Learnings: We learnt that physical activity does much more than just keep us fit. It improves our brain function, attention, and memory, which helps us concentrate better in class and perform well academically. Regular exercise also reduces stress and anxiety for upcoming weighted assessments, boosts our mood which is crucial for a classroom environment and enhances our overall well-being. We also learnt that exercise supports the development of a growth mindset and self-efficacy. When we achieve fitness goals, it builds our confidence and motivates us to keep improving, not just physically but mentally in our studies.

Reflection: At first, we didn’t realise how linked physical activity and academic performance were. We always saw exercise as something separate from studying, but now we understand that it can actually help us learn better and feel more focused. It was interesting to explore how small changes in our daily routine, like being more active, can lead to better mental clarity and reduce stress. All it takes is for us to start doing 5 minute workouts after studying as a good and short break. This research made us reflect on our own habits and how we can improve both our health and our studies by staying fit and active.

So we learnt that eating breakfast before PE is really, really important for the following reasons:

1) We need the energy from the carbs not only for PE, but the whole day! Therefore, to prevent yourself from potentially passing out, eating a (HEALTHY) breakfast is really important.

2) It also plays a part in a better performance during PE as doing it on an empty stomach holds us back from unlocking our potential.

3) It’s hurts to do, well, anything on an empty stomach so you are actually doing your body a favour by giving it the energy it needs to perform well.

However, eating food in moderation is also important as overeating right before PE might cause indigestion or other health problems. Not eating enough also can cause you to feel tired and hungry in the middle of the lesson. Don’t forget to eat healthy things as junk food is just not good for you.

Not eating breakfast before pe results in the body feeling easily tired and faint. We can have quick bites such as oatmeal bar, or a packet of milk will give you some energy.

Reflection: eating breakfast before pe is very very important so that or body has enough energy to function properly during pe.

Learnings : We learnt that eating breakfast before PE is important because it gives our body the energy it needs to stay active and perform well. When we eat in the morning, especially foods that have carbohydrates and protein, we fuel our muscles and brain. This helps us concentrate better and have more strength and stamina during physical activities. Without breakfast, we might feel weak, dizzy, or even unwell while exercising, which can affect us and make us feel uncomfortable.

Reflections: From this, we learned that breakfast isn’t just a regular meal it plays a big role in helping us get through PE. we realised that when we skip breakfast, we feel more tired and less motivated to take part in games or sports. Moving forward, we will try to eat something healthy in the morning to make sure we’re ready for pe.
