He discovers that his friend Dr Jekyll compares to the name of Edward Hyde, a mysterious and violent man. Mr. Hyde is deformed, small and repugnant, so Utterson is worried for his friend and he tries to understand the whole story. Dr Jekyll says that they are friends, but Utterson isn’t convinced and he starts to look into Hyde. At the beginning Utterson thinks that Hyde threatens Jekyll, but it isn’t true. Jekyll starting to act strangely and he stayed all day long in his laboratory. His servant Poole heard strange voices coming from that room,so he helped Utterson to find the thruth. Finally they found mr Hyde body and dressed like Jekyll  and they found a letter too. Utterson read that letter and understands all the story:  
Jekyll, an altruist scientist, realized that good and evil coexist in human nature, so that we can find two personalities in only one body. And this novel talk about someone who seems to have two different characters,one good and one bad.Jekyll's experiments began in an attempt to separate the two sides of human nature and destroy the evil one.He discovered that the evil part was part of himself. Jekyll was unable to destroy the evil side of his nature,instead he indulged it and it destroyed the good in him.

Mr Utterson: is an old friend of Jekyll, and his lawyer. He is calm and logical and as a lawyer he believes in the rational world rather than the supernatural one.
