Due to political issues in Mexico, emigration to America was almost a necessity for a better life. With the building of the Southern Pacific Railroad, cheap labor was attractive to Americans and Mexicans were encouraged to come over to the U.S. with the promise of work. This cheap labor lead to intense discrimination against the Mexicans from Anglo-Americans.
