The Childhood of Alexander Hamilton

Hamilton was born on January 11th, 1755 on an island in the West Indies called Nevis. He grew up in Charlestown, the capital of the island. It was a rather rich community because of the valuable crop of sugar. Unfortunately, Alexander's family didn't have these riches.
Alexander's older cousin, Peter Lytton, kept books for Alex's mother. One day, he saw Alex doing his homework and admired his intelligence. Peter decided to teach him to hold accounts. Alexander was already showing some of the mathematical genius that was later to make him America’s greatest financial guiding hand. Things weren’t always easy for Alex, though. When he was 10, his father left and when he was 12, his mother died. He was desperately ambitious and lonesome. In 1772 a hurricane hit Nevis and destruction rang. His town turned to him. Alex wrote a letter to his father regarding the devastation, and it was later published in the Royal Gazette. It created a sensation. A copy appeared in a letter to Reverend John Witherspoon, president of Princeton College. He asked if Alex to be sent to New Jersey to be educated. In 1773, Alex sailed to a new land. He was greeted by Hercules Mulligan and instantly asked him how to get to Princeton College.

His father, Reverend Burr, was an intelligent and well respected minister to the descendent of a distinguished family in the early history of the American colonies. Aaron’s mother was a genius. She always spend time with her children and wrote about her experiences. Unfortunately, both of Aaron’s parents died of smallpox. Aaron was a rebel, and he ran away at four years old. He tried again at 10 years old. He found a captain who needed a cabin boy and wasn’t particular about his age. Aaron signed on, took his small bundle of possessions in his bunk, and prepared to see the world. His uncle, his new caretaker, made a bargain with Aaron. If he returned home peacefully, he wouldn’t be punished. He went with his Uncle and started his studies. At 13, he joined the sophomore class of Princeton College. He graduated in two years. The child genius would soon join the revolution. He still had a lot ahead of him.

As the war went on, Aaron Burr’s Army career became a combination of brilliance, bravery, and disobedience. He felt he knew better than the orders his superiors gave. He and his men went to a town called Hackensack to spy on the British force. The men left safely. Burr knew his commanding officer would be impressed with him, but he was wrong. He disobeyed orders. Now, his commander would give orders that could strictly not be disobeyed. If they did so, and order would be called for their removal.
Hamilton contributed to the victory at Monmouth. It was a very important victory for the Continentals, and the British started to die off. As the war went on, Hamilton became more a phenomenon. When the war ended,
he had much ahead of him.

The companions measured ten paces and the duelists took their places. They counted to ten. Hamilton fired his gun in the sky less than a second before Burr’s bullet struck Hamilton between the ribs. Burr shouts “Wait!” as if to warn Hamilton of his crime, but it’s too late. He is taken back across the Hudson to Elizabeth as she stays at his side while her husband dies. Aaron Burr will regret this for the rest of his life.
