After carrying out and watching role plays on discrimination here are my views on ways to avoid discrimination.

Gender reassignment

“disgusting”, treat her like a
woman not a man, be open to transgender. This was discrimination because in the
video they were giving verbal discrimination (direct discrimination). This was harassment
due to the comments. Treat the person like how you would like to be treated.

Pregnancy and maternity

The interviewer was discriminate against the woman because she was pregnant, so the other participant got the
job because she was pregnant. They should have accepted that she was pregnant
and still worked with her and give her a chance to prove herself. This is Direct discrimination

Age

Not
to just think that someone is not right for the job because they are young, to
have equal questions and to accept everyone. The interviewee thought that Dan
was too young for the job and need future education. This is direct discrimintion.

Gender

Discriminated because of Dan’s gender. (direct) With this job it did not have an accurate
gender to the role. To prevent discrimination through gender you should be
equal and have equal questions to both participants.

Marriage and Civil partnership/ Sexual orientation.

Harassed because of sexuality “dike”
(direct). This is discrimination because the other students do not understand
how the words they are saying can affect their emotions and make the person
feel. I think by doing lessons on same sex relationships. They couple also wanted to get married, others critized this because they think it is wrong to have same sex marriage. You can avoid this by reporting the incident and giving education to others about same sex relationships.

Religion and Believes

Not able to wear head scarfs. This is
discrimination because you should be allowed to wear head scarfs which relates
to your religion. They believe you should wear head scarfs because they believe
that we should respect that religion and allow people to wear head scarfs. You could
avoid this by talking and learning about different religions. Indirect
discrimination

Disablities

This was discrimination because there was no lifts for the visually impaired person,
this means that she could have fell down the stairs when a student bumped into
her. I think that by having lifts this could prevent accidents with in the work
place. Also you could prevent this by having lessons on disabilities.

Race

You can get people that
discriminate by the colour of people’s skin, for example thinking that all
people with turbans are terrorists. This can be stopped by having
multi-cultural class and mix class. You can also prevent this by having classes
on cultures and get an understanding of other people’s cultures and
backgrounds.
