- Jonas
In my opinion, I feel that Jonas has been based as the main character for this novel, I also think that Jonas is a really nice guy, he is an Eleven but could be suffering from anxiety from something in the past because when the plane passed over the community he had a panic attack.
- Lily (Jonas' sister)

Lily is Jonas' sister, she is a Seven. She seems like what is sometimes called a "Teachers Pet" but even outside school-in other words, it seems like she is a perfect young girl that rarely makes mistakes because she is always following the rules.

Main Plot:

Jonas' family gathers for a dinner and Jonas needed to describe how he felt during his day, he really didn't want to tell the truth, but he knew the rule was that he had to. He was trying to describe to the family about a future event being held in December, but he was stopped by his emotions. This book kind of reminds me of the Hunger Games series, I have that connection because they both seem like they don't have the fairest government. I also feel this connection because both sets of characters in both novels give me the impression that they are controlled. Well, I know they were controlled in the Hunger Games because I read them but I haven't read this book yet, but I am getting that vibe.
More details of the main plot are:

- The whole chapter was trying to show us their lifestyle, I do have the feeling that it is really different from the life we have.
- A jet flew over the community and it really frightened Jonas, which gave us a clue on the character Jonas.
- At the dinner table, the family really used the word "released" a lot. The way they said it in didn't sound like it was a great circumstance to be in. Therefore, I think it could mean that maybe if you don't follow the rules you can be executed from the community- the punishment there could be that the rest of the world is an unsafe place to be? Another guess that I have is it could mean that they kill the person on the spot. Lastly, it could possibly be that the person has been released to do hard work.
- As dinner rolled around at Jonas' house, we got to learn the roles that his parents do in their community.
- Jonas remembers a funny story from his best friend, Asher, the silly story gave us a hint on Asher's personality.
- The chapter ended with almost a cliffhanger when Jonas' mom said that her and Jonas needed to talk.

I personally think they are one of those 2 options because they seem to not be able to exit without doing something wrong, and they are forced to work. My gut says we will also get to see what the big thing with December could be, and I have absolutely no idea what it could be.

While doing research on the book I referenced (The Hunger Games), I noticed that the world they were based in was actually apocalyptic, which basically means the end of the world happened, and they don't have access to things like they did before. If the world were to end today I do think lots of people wouldn't have made it though the Apocalypse. So, I am kind of curious to see if this book has something to do with the world ending and maybe them being the only people who survived.

Main Plot:

Jonas' family (in exception to Lily) were gathered around the dinner table to discuss what's going to happen in December. What happens in December is every child labelled from 1 to 12 get new opportunities do to certain things around the community. The family discussed that and what's going to happen with all the Decembers- newborn, right in the middle or graduating from being a twelve. This book reminds me of Divergent. I feel a connection with both the books because they both are dystopian. They both have worlds that almost seem like the same because once they turn 16 years old in the Divergent, they have to make a huge choice to see what "family" they should join. But, it's pretty much just a faction that you join. In The Giver, once the kids turn past being an eleven, they have to leave their family. I also feel a connection with Divergent and The Hunger Games because they both have apocalyptic worlds.
More details of the main plot are:

- Jonas' father tells Jonas and Jonas' mom about how Lily was named at year one.
- We find out that Jonas' family may get a new child named Gabriel, but they hope he doesn't get released because they like the name and how they can call him Gabe.
- The family talks about how in December all the twelves get assignments, which is the job you are assigned. The assignments are chosen by the elders.
-We find out that the rules in the community are super hard to change, and when they do, it's super rare.
- Jonas' mom stutters him by telling him that after that once he turns into a twelve, it might wreck friendships he has with people like Asher.
- We find out that Jonas' father sneaked into the room where they have the newborn babies posted, that's how he knows the name and that it's baby number 23.

I think it'll be mid book almost at the climax where we will get to see what the real definition is for released in the community. In the chapters I will be reading in the next week, I think we will get to see what job Jonas gets, we will get to see if anything happens with Asher, but I do think there might be some problem with Asher or Jonas trying to salvage the friendship that started to fade because of the job. And I think with that problem going on, they might break the rules. I think we will also get to potentially meet Gabriel if he doesn't end up getting released. Anyhow, I am thrilled to keep reading!

The family instantly make a bond with him and you can see that the whole family already loves him. We get more information on how they're life seems to be controlled. Lily seems a lot happier to have a younger brother than older. Personally, I have 2 older brothers and I don't like how they treat me sometimes but I do get more things that they weren't allowed to have when they were 13, so being the youngest is awesome, in exception to having the older siblings. Lily says she'd like to be assigned the birth giver job by the elders but her mom doesn't prove of her wanting to be that.
More details of the main plot are:

- Jonas and Gabriel have light eyes which are super rare in the community which has the family pondering if Jonas' real birth giver could be Gabriel's
-While Jonas was thinking about the eyes, he remembers the time he was playing catch with Asher, and he saw it changing colours, so he brings t home to inspect it but then gets in trouble on the community speakers. He thinks Lily would be great at that job.
- The apple Jonas and Asher were playing with changed colour while it was in the air. At one point they say the apple was the same shade as Jonas' shirt. A moment later it's a different shade than his shirt.

This chapter gave us a lot of key elements that could happen in the near future of this book. But one main thing that caught my eye was the eye colour. In my opinion, they wouldn't have mentioned it if there was no point of it. So I looked up if people with dark eyes didn't get as great of a colour tone as all the people with light eyes. It didn't say anything about the dark eyes having more trouble seeing colour, although it did say that people with lighter eyes are more sensitive to see colour. Another thing I noticed is that haven't said anything about colours yet which gets me curious. They've either not specified it or they called the colour a shade. So I wonder if all the dark eyes can't see colour but the light eyes can...

He pulled up to the house of the old with his bike and realized Asher was there doing his volunteer hours. Jonas decided to go in and get a few more volunteer hours, so he has enough for the ceremony. He walked in and went through a few rooms until he reached the bathing station where he assigned to wash an old lady. He saw Asher there but then also the girl he took a liking to was there too, Fiona. This reminds me of the life that we have here. We have to do a certain amount of service/volunteer hours before we graduate High School. If we do not do the hours needed we will not be able to graduate. So, like us, they have to do that or else they will have to get them right away, you will not get to have a ceremony for graduating from being an eleven, and your job will be assigned to you privately, with no clapping and happiness, something that will scar you for the rest of your life.
More details of the main plot are:

-Larissa talks about how one of her friends who was at the house of old was released. She was saying that he was released, and they were so sad to have him die. I think when the people are born they are chosen a day to be released, I am guessing they drug the old people, so they are asleep when the people who release people kill them.
- Larissa brought up the releasing ceremony, its when the old people have to be released. They didn't seem to wan to talk about it maybe because they don't want to think about it?
- Larissa and Jonas were talking about what happens with the bodies after the people have been released. Jonas kept asking Larissa questions about it, but she had no idea, because they don't talk about what happens.
- We learn a new rule; You can only look at babies or old people nude. You cannot look at any other nude people.

After he confessed what happened in his dream, and he was forced to go on a pill. I might be crazy for thinking this, but if they are taking them, so they can focus on work or just not think about lovers, they're crazy. I think it's overly stupid to do that because it is super normal. Pills won't solve all your problems either. Considering its normal, I don't think it's fair to do that since almost everyone will be taking those pills. I chose to make the picture for chapter 5 a bunch of pills because the main conflict of this chapter was how they have to take pills.

- Jonas
In chapter 6, we get to see that Jonas wouldn't like to get assigned to be a pilot because he will be put in an appeal.
- Lily
No new character trait.

- Asher
No new character trait.
- Jonas' Mom

No new character trait.
- Jonas' Dad
No new character trait.
- Gabriel
No new character trait.
- Fiona
No new character trait
- Larissa
No new character trait.
- Frizz
Frizz is the boy that lives next door to Jonas and Lily. In this chapter, he was an 8 but is now a 9. When they talk about him they say he is the guy who'd leave his bike on the ground instead of the port given. This gives me the feeling he is a really lazy person and tries to think of the laziest way to do things but still succeeds, and in this case that'd be leaving his bike on the ground instead of the port.
- Caleb
Caleb was a guy who didn't like his job, so he attempted to swim across the river but couldn't. Unfortunately he died but the community replaced him with another Caleb.

Sadly, again this chapter like the last, we didn't get to see much new character traits in exception to Frizz and Jonas. But like I said in the last chapter, it makes whoever they are a bit more clear and may help us with predictions.

Main Plot:
The ceremony in December has finally debuted! We learn that the ceremonies end after you turn from being an 11 to a 12. The chapter starts with everyone preparing for the ceremony that went from 1 to 9. They bike to the ceremony and get their seats. To be a bit more clear, Lily's ceremony was that current day and Jonas' was the next day. I can relate to this because when we do large things in our world, for example, when we graduate from high school, depending on the size if your school, they may separate it into a few days, so they don't have to do everyone in one whole day, and so they aren't on a crushed time table.
More details of the main plot are:

- Gabriel has to stay with Nurturing Centre in the daytime, although, in the night, he stays with Jonas' family.
- Fiona gets a brother named Bruno, and she talks about how she didn't like the name, but she thought he was cute.
- The eights get a coat that has pockets, so they can store small items.
- The nines get bikes and Frizz gets his because he just turned into a nine.
- Asher tells a story about how a guy attempted to swim across the river, but didn't succeed. Jonas quickly tells Asher the story isn't true because his Dad heard it when he was a twelve too
- We get to learn that losing a child is extremely rare, and they have a ceremony for the person who was lost. Although, when someone is released, no ceremony is held.
- Up until the chapter ended, we were able to see anxiety build up onto Jonas because his ceremony was coming up in a story amount of time, which meant his new chapter of his life was right on the doorstep.

Questions:

- What job will Jonas be assigned? Will he enjoy it?
- Will Jonas and Asher work together?
- Will Jonas and Asher stay as close as they are now or is their friendship in jeopardy?
- Why don't people mourn the deaths for people who were released but mourn the people who were lost? They both went to the same place...
- Will Jonas be a Pilot? Will he get the only job we know so far that he doesn't want.
- Why is December chosen to be the month when they do the ceremonies? Why not in January when it's a new year?
- How can parents have 2 different aged children when they get 2 children in the same year (When they get their first children?)

Predictions:

Now that we have started with the yearly ceremony that happens in every chapter, we will soon get to know what Jonas will spend his life doing. I think he may get a job he won't like, but could work with the academics he has. I think we will see someone close to all the characters get released, just, so we know how it works and what's its like, so we have a hint. I think the person who will be released could be Frizz. I think this because Frizz is a character that keeps breaking the rules over and over, I don't think he is doing it on purpose, but he is still breaking them. I think we will see how the arrangement works with Gabriel living in the days at the Nurturing Centre, and living with Jonas' family at night. I think Jonas may get paired with Fiona to be spouses because they are both smart. I think we may see some conflict between Jonas and Asher because they most likely will not be working in the same places because they are polar opposites of each other.

Main Plot:
The ceremony of the 11 has finally started! The start of this chapter is all the elevens taking their seats in the auditorium and getting ready for the big day. We figure out they rarely use their birth numbers to identify themselves. But in this case they have to. All the people of eleven take their seats where their designated number is, and they wait to be called up, but it goes from 1 to 50. This reminds me of how school attendances work, they start alphabetically and go from a to z, in this case they go by date of birth. I'm normally first on the list because my name starts with a B, this year I'm third in my homeroom and 1st in my immersion class.
More details of the main plot are:

- They went through all the elevens, at least most thought...
- Asher was the fourth person to go up. The Chief Elder was talking about how they know him by always saying "I want my smack" instead of "I want my snack" which got a chuckle from the audience. He was later named the Assistant Director of Recreation.
- Later on Fiona went up, who was sitting one left of Jonas was named one of the Caretakers of the Old. My assumption on why she was chosen for this position is because she spent many hours volunteering there.
- Right after Fiona was Jonas. It was his time to go up, so he was getting prepared to go up, and he was just forgotten, skipped. He felt like he did something wrong. I can't imagine this happening, like I was graduating grade 12 and the person just skips over my name, I'd feel like I did something wrong on top of being embarrassed.

Questions:

- Was Jonas genuinely forgotten or was he skipped?
- If he was skipped what did he do wrong?
- Since they were talking about how many things Asher has done wrong like speaking too fast or just forgetting, why hasn't he been released
- Why didn't anyone say anything about Jonas' turn being skipped? Is that a rule?
- Why do they have to use the birth numbers to order when they can alphabetically order people like we do in our world?

- What was his parents and Lily going through when Jonas was skipped?

- Did he not complete the amount of volunteer hours that he should have done?

Predictions:

After this chapter, we have been left on a cliffhanger, Jonas was skipped at the ceremony. What's next? I don't think Jonas did anything wrong because he seems like he is smart and always perfect. I think the Chief Elder just forgot to call him out. Maybe at the end she noticed there was an extra badge, and she noticed she missed someone. It could have just been a huge mistake and I think it was. I think he is going through a lot right now thinking he did something wrong and I think the Chief Elder will apologize and assign him his job right after. Like I've said in the last prediction for last chapter, I think Jonas will get a job he may like but I now feel like he's going to work with someone we know, and now we know Asher and Fiona's job, it can't be with both so if he works with one of them it can't be both, it'll be one or the other. I can't wait to read the next few chapters because its getting exciting!

At the end of chapter 7 we got to see him in a lot of stress and him being frightened. Jonas was scared because he was skipped, and he thought to himself, "what did I do wrong?" At the start of chapter 8, we got to see the Chief Elder apologize for all the stress he had on his shoulders. Everyone forgave her apology. He immediately went up to the stage to get assigned his job. Although right at that moment we found out that he wasn't going to get assigned his job, he was selected his job. Which meant what exactly? Anyways, he was given the role of being the Receiver of Memory. One other person had that job ever in history, and he was at the ceremony. But he is old and now they need to give the job to someone new. The man is going to help Jonas train for the job. This kind of reminds me of our world, there are one jobs that are for one person. So we will have to see what his job is.
More details of the main plot are:

- The Chief Elder was talking about how this job causes a lot of pain and trauma the last Receiver of Memory cannot even explain, I can relate to this because sometimes in my life I've gone through things that are so hard I don't want to talk or even think about them.
- When Jonas was up on stage, he saw objects changing colour like the apple, I wonder if there could be a trigger word or object that sets him off...
- The Chief elder goes on about how the person chosen for the job must have intelligence, integrity and wisdom.
- Once the Chief Elder was finished, the crowd was hushed for a slight moment before they started chanting Jonas' name over and over.

But I was wrong, she was saving him until the end because he has the rarest job out of the whole community, which I would have guessed that would have been the case. Jonas was selected to be the Receiver of memory, which I think we will get to see what the definition of his job is in chapter 9. I think Jonas' job is a job only one person can have, like I said in the plot section, I think it's a job like the Prime Minister of Canada, only one person can have the title of that job. I also thought he may have gotten a job with either Fiona or Asher, but I was wrong. He does not work with Fiona and also Asher. I think the man who will help Jonas start his job will be so hurt from it, he may not be able to look at the things or even struggle to teach Jonas. I think he may also give hints and little shortcuts around the job because he has been working there for so long.

The Chief Elder went through all the names and numbers for all the elevens although Jonas was not included. He felt embarrassed because all the elevens saw that he was excluded from the ceremony, and he was also stressed because he wasn't sure when or if he was going to be called up. He felt excluded and I know from experiences it is not a great feeling being the elephant in the room at the ceremony.

In chapter 8, we got to see Jonas get his job, which means a new chapter of his like is about to debut. I think he is excited but also generally confused because he's never heard of the job before. I think he feels like he is under stress because when the Chief Elder said the job he was selected, all the parents and audience just... Gasped. So, I am not sure what his job is, but I am pretty sure he doesn't know either. The picture for this chapter is what confusion looks like because a big part of this chapter is Jonas being confused, about his job and why he wasn't called up to the podium to get his job.

Main Plot:
In this chapter, It started off with Jonas riding home with Asher from the ceremony, Jonas was able to tell that something was wrong with his friendship with Asher. He saw a few moments where it was weird between the two and then when Asher left to stop at his house, is where it also got awkward. I have been in a situation before where things have been awkward with either family or friends. Sometimes it's because we just got out of a huge fight, and we wanted to forget about whatever happened but it's sometimes hard to forget, or something happened in their personal life and you are too shy to ask what happened, trust me I have been through all of it, and all of those situations worked themselves out so hopefully Jonas' and Asher's does too!
More details of the main plot are:

- Jonas read his folder about the job that he was selected for, but he was suddenly confused as his folder only included one-page while most included a lot.

- Even right after the ceremony, he saw that people were being a lot nicer to him as if he was the king, they would move out of the way for him to get by, and he'd be constantly congratulated his achievement.

- When Jonas gets home, dinner is prepared. Although, the family barely said a peep. Eventually his mother begins to talk about how happy she is for him, and he should be honoured for the position, but she tells him about the story of how a girl was given the job but failed the needs, and she was never seen again.

- We learned it's a rule to never talk about the girl, say the name or reuse it.
- Jonas read the instructions on the sheet he was given. They were:

1. Go immediately at the end of school hours each day to the Annex entrance behind the House of the Old and present yourself to the attendant.
2. Go immediately to your dwelling at the conclusion of Training Hours each day.
3. From this moment you are exempted from rules governing rudeness. You may ask any question of
any citizen and you will receive answers.
4. Do not discuss your training with any other member of the community, including parents and Elders.
5. From this moment you are prohibited from dream-telling.
6. Except for illness or injury unrelated to your training, do not apply for any medication.
7. You are not permitted to apply for release.
8. You may lie.

Or, it may get worse. I think it's 50/50 because its not like they ended on great terms. Jonas knows that for a fact, but I am not sure if Asher does. I think we will get to see Jonas' first training for the job in the next chapter. I think we may see what the job actually is in the next chapter, too. But my guess is he may be working outside the community. I have a feeling that is going to happen because they say he has to lie about what's going on, and I do not think anyone knows about the outside world, which could be the reason why he has to lie. I think he may still have a connection to Fiona too. I know he doesn't like her but I do think they may be together when they get paired for the spouse pairings, because they seem perfect for each other!

I think the 3 big parts of this chapter was the girl who failed the job and hasn't been seen since, the now awkwardness between Jonas and Asher but also how Jonas got the folder and received one paper full of instructions. I think the paper is so important because everyone else got so many papers for instructions and rules, and he got only one. Does that mean his job is more simple and easy? We will have to see!!

Main Plot:
Chapter 10 started off by Jonas and Fiona biking to the house of the old, where Jonas did his training in the back wing of the building. Fiona worked in the first wing. She was explaining how she was afraid for the job despite the fact she has done the majority of her volunteer hours there over the years. This reminds me of the first day of school, it's like you have been there so many years but you are so scared to get back to your normal routine. Everything is the same in exception to having a new batch of teachers and a new class, and it's just a little scary the first day. We were also introduced to the Elder that helped Jonas train. He seems awkward. I think the job almost took away his soul and his life. He also looks ancient. Although, he is very young compared to his looks, and he has a lot more life to live.
More details of the main plot are:

- Once Jonas enters the building, he is confused to see a locked door considering there is none in the entire community. He stumbles into the building after the door was unlocked for him by the lady at the desk, but sees another locked door, the lady opened again to go into the room where his training started.

- Once the second door unlocked, he walked into a large room with a lot of furniture, books and a kitchen just like his house, although he was quickly to see that the furniture was a little nicer than the stuff he has at home.

- This room had a hundred off books, if not hundreds, thousands. Like the book of rules, and more. He was questioning why so many. And every little inch of this room he was questioning.

- Jonas turns around and sees the man, does a small bow and introduces himself. He quickly identifies him from the ceremony, he remembers that because this man has pale eyes too. This man was the old Receiver of memory, he was making an attempt to show Jonas what the job was.

- The Elder was trying to tell Jonas how all the memories he had from the past and from the whole Generations and the whole world be transferred to him as Wisdom. This confused Jonas as much as it confused me.

- Jonas wasn't figuring it out so the Elder gives up and decides to show Jonas what it is instead. He told him the story of snow which Jonas also didn't understand, so, the Elder takes Jonas and makes him lay down and to relax, so the Elder can transmit the story of snow into his soul.

What's in the past?
- How old is the old Receiver of Memory?

- If there are a lot of memories from the past, will they take over Jonas and have him frightened for life?

- Why are there locks on those 2 doors and nowhere else in the community?

- Is the pain the Chief Elder was talking about all the memories being transmitted into Jonas?

Predictions:

In the next chapter, I think we will get to see Jonas after the story was transmitted to him, and he will either be really scared/shaking, or he may be just fine. We don't know anything about this story, so we would have no idea if this story is actually scary or if it's a children's story. I think we will also soon get to see what the past brought, and why the community exists how it does today. I think it may be really harsh, for example lot of wars so people can get the freedom they want. I think Fiona will get used to her job, and she will adjust and no longer be worried considering how long she has been doing volunteer hours for. Anyways, I didn't have much to write for this prediction part of the chapter, but I am excited to keep writing!

The man couldn't explain it, so he ended up having to show hi. He transmitted 3 stories to Jonas, one that was about snow, him going down a hill on a sled, there was a story of him in the sunshine where he felt warmth, and lastly the third story involved a little more pain, it was him in burning, where he kept saying ouch! That story was called sunburn. In the end Jonas asks him what he should be called and the man responded with the giver. I think we will see a lot of The Giver in the coming chapters considering the book is called The Giver.

Main Plot:
So, this started off when Jonas arrived in the house of old with Fiona, he went around to the back wing if the building where he was asked to go for his first day of training. He got into a room that had a lot of books and nicer furniture than what he has at his house. He saw an old man on the couch behind him, and they shook hands and started talking. The old man was trying to describe to Jonas how his job works, but Jonas did not get it at all. The man decides to show Jonas how the job works. That's where chapter 10 ended, chapter 11 was about the old man showing Jonas how the job worked, the first demonstration was Snow, he was sledding on a snow hill with a sled, cutting through the snow and having fun. The second demonstration was him in the heat, this one was called sunshine. The third and last was a lot more painful and stung Jonas, it was called sunburn. This reminds me of how we dream at night, its like us dreaming but different. I see the connection because your eyes are closed and you are almost hallucinating, except in this book when Jonas is lying on the couch the man is giving him what to dream about.
More details of the main plot are:

- The "dream" he had was called a memory, because apparently these stories were from the past.

- After Jonas saw the snow memory, the man instantly forgets the story, it's almost like the story was transferred from the man's brain and went to Jonas' brain. When I think about this my mind instantly goes to money. If someone gives you money they suddenly lose possession of it and it instantly goes to you and it sticks with you, until you either spend it or give it to someone else. In this case, The Giver gave Jonas the money in trade for the Job, when Jonas stops working in a few decades, he will give that money to someone else in trade for the job.

- At then end of the chapter, Jonas was walking out, and He has to ask one more question, what was his name. He answered with The Giver.

What could be the worst from the past?
- Are the books in that room all filled with things from the past? Are the books used for Jonas to go back into the past?

- What will the memories be when Jonas receives them?

- Will one of the memories from the past be how being released was started?

- Does The Giver have a real name?
- Do you get to be called The Giver once you have completed being the job of being the Receiver of Memory?

- Why is the Climate all screwed up in the community?

Predictions:

In this chapter, we got to see Jonas start his training for his future job. I think in the next chapter we will see more training in progress and a bit more stories, but I'm assuming once The Giver notices that he is not going to be fired from the job, he will start sending Jonas with darker and deeper memories from the past. I think we will also figure out what being released means from his job. I think we will see it as one of the memories. I think we will get to see what happens with Gabriel soon, I think we will see if he has had any growth in the past few days and if he has made any progress. I'm assuming if he hasn't made any progress he will be released. I think we will figure out why the community by Jonas' job too, I think it'll be a memory Jonas receives too just, so I am more clear. We will just have to wait and see what happens in the coming chapters to see if my predictions are true!

There was one thing that stuck out the most though, and that was that the man's name is The Giver. That put me into shock because the name of the book is called The Giver. Anyways, I did some research on what he looked like and apparently from the movie he looks like the image below.

Main Plot:
In this chapter, we learned that Jonas is starting to see colour! Which, is really rare in the community. The Giver was telling him this is what seeing beyond is and that what he is seeing is called the colour red. Jonas was confused, colour, red... What is all that? It was one of the things he needed to have for his job, one of the reasons why the Elders selected him for it. This reminds me of when we did that small project in English class a few weeks ago, when we learned why company use colours. We earned that red is one of the hottest colour of all colours, so it makes complete sense that he would see red first, because it catches the eye.
More details of the main plot are:

- Jonas wakes up, and he makes the decision not to tell his family bout what he dreamt about in the dream telling the night before, by telling his family he did not have a dream. He makes his first lie.

- When he was going to his second day of training, he sees Fiona, and they chat for a quick second before she goes for her training. As she was walking in, she sees her hair flash into a different colour for a quick second. He was confused, so he asks The Giver why her hair changed. That's where the giver explains he is starting to see red.

- Once Jonas started his second day of training, The Giver asked him to lay back onto his stomach to try to see if he remembers the story of Snow, he saw the sled change and once he woke up, he asked why he was seeing things change colours.

- Once The Giver noticed Jonas was not understanding why he was seeing colours, and what colours were. He decided to show Jonas the story of Rainbow to see if it'll help him see colours a little more. I think The Giver was showing him this because rainbows have many colours in them so Jonas could see all the colours and understand what they are.

I think we may see more dreams coming from The Giver and then going to Jonas. The Giver may show something to Jonas that can possibly traumatize him because we still have not figured out how this job is so bad. I think we may see them at school one day when everyone is talking about their training and then Jonas be quiet because he is not allowed to tell anyone, and I think everyone will be confused on what's going on with him. I think we may see more of Gabriel, I know I have kept saying that despite not even seeing him much yet, but I think we will see more.

Questions:

- Who wrote the books? And why?
- What are exactly in those books?
- Do the books have stories in there that trigger people like Jonas to have memories?
- Can Jonas see all colours right now or just green, blue and red.
- Why can't anyone know about the stories and memories? Especially their spouses?

- Did the memory of rainbow make him see more colours?

- If the community did not have sameness, would it be less safe? What would it be like?
- Are these stories fake? Are they made to just scare him?

- Are the stories made to make sure the whole community doesn't make these mistakes again or even ever?

Predictions:

Like In said in the last prediction from last chapter, I think we will get to see Jonas see all the colours. Right now I think he can see blue, green and red. But, which colours will he see next? I guessed it'd go red, orange then yellow. But I was wrong. Maybe he will see the most basic colours first? I think we will see more training over the next few chapters, and also see the stories progress. I think these memories may equal up to something. Like after going through all the stories it may make a sentence because the community may not be safe. Otherwise, I do not see the reason that he would have this as a job that he needs to keep private. If his job is to make sure these mistakes do not happen again, why would he keep the mistakes private? If everyone knew then they wouldn't make these mistakes happen again... If that's not the case either then I don't see any reason for his job.

She didn't believe it. She seems like the person to need to see proof if one thing is actually real.

This chapter ranged from Jonas arguing about everyone not living up to their potential to him having another dream coming from The Giver. I chose the dream he had about the Elephants being killed, because it seemed like one of the biggest conflicts in the chapter. Elephants were real, but they were killed. Now we see why this job gives so much pain and I can see it only getting worse, I can see these dreams making one big sentence telling everyone to get out of the community because its not safe or something. Anyways, I chose a picture of an elephant for the picture of this chapter.

Main Plot:
This chapter starts with Jonas seeing colour, he was getting mad because barely anyone sees the colours, and he doesn't think its fair. The Giver tells him that it is because when they are learning the colours, if they get some wrong it could be bad. So they think it is better without colour. We also get to see a story with elephants, people in the past were killing elephants, because the people wanted their tusks, but, this reminds me of our world, we kill many animals a day for food. For example, at Thanksgiving, we eat a lot of turkey, but they are animals! Jonas was saying this story was scary because of all the blood, making the colour red much worse.
More details of the main plot are:

- We got to see Jonas see colours of bushes, flowers, the sky and the grass, he tried to make Asher see the colours by transmitting the colours over to him, which is against the rules.

- He had been transmitted this bad dream about elephants being killed, it wasn't great but what caught him most by surprise is seeing that elephants were actually real. He told Lily because of her elephant stuffed animal, and she didn't believe it.

- Jonas posed a question for The Giver, he asked did you have a spouse? He said he did. But it was really hard because he had to hide many things about his job including the memories and books.

- After Jonas was gone for a few days, he asks what type of pain does The Giver have with him right now. So the giver decides to give Jonas another memory.

Main Plot:
This chapter starts with Jonas going through the sled memory again, this time it was different... More scary. Instead of snow, it was light blue ice. Jonas caught speed and hits a huge bump, which made him fall off his sled. Once he hits the ground he hears a crack in his leg. He screamed in pain. What caught me by surprise is when he woke up. He claimed there was a pulsing pain going through his body, including where he hurt his leg in the memory. After that, The Giver decided to show Jonas another memory, which was about hunger and pain. The Giver decided to show Jonas this memory because he wanted Jonas to know why they need to see these memories, and keep them. The reason why they keep these memories is that they want to make sure they don't make these mistakes again, its like how we have to learn History in school. The main reason we do learn History is because we need to make sure we don't make the same mistakes people made in the past.
More details of the main plot are:

- Jonas and The Giver talk about how they need the memories to make sure they don't make the mistakes that happened in the past happen in the present. Jonas thinks that the whole community should know the mistakes, which The Giver doesn't disagree with. The Giver has been trying to figure out how to tell the community for a long time. Jonas thinks submitting a change of rules could be smart.

- Jonas comes home and has dinner with his family. His Dad can tell something is wrong, he asked and Jonas said nothing. He was thinking about what happened in his memories.

- When Jonas was going to bed, he volunteers to have Gabriel sleep in his room. His family agrees. Gabriel woke up Jonas due to crying. Jonas makes the decision of thinking of a peaceful memory and transmitting it to Gabriel, which is against the rules but put him to sleep. This is why I think Jonas is a person who will break the rules and may get by with it.

- The chapter closes with Jonas thinking of telling The Giver that he gave a memory away. He decides not to because he doesn't have the power to.

Main Plot:
This chapter was tiny! So, there was not many conflicts in it. But, the chapter started with Jonas walking into the Annex room. He knows that today was not going to be a tough day, because The Giver was struggling. Jonas volunteered to take a memory from The Giver. But, this memory was the definition of Warfare. Jonas was afraid as he went to lay on his stomach. Once The Giver put his hands on his back, he knew it was going to start. It started off with him being in this confused, awful smelling place and it was sunny and early in the morning. He was confused because it seemed like nothing was going on. But then he hears a small whisper, saying water. He looks over to find a guy with yellow hair, about Jonas' age who is covered in blood. Jonas had a container of water in front of him which the boy needed. He tried moving his right arm which was in complete pain, and it didn't move. He used his left arm, carefully opened the top and poured the water down the boy's throat. Afterwards, all he heard was canons erupting and all the animals and men dying. The story seemed terrible. If I were in his shoes, I am not sure how I'd pull it off. It seems too painful. Just seeing blood hurts me.
More details of the main plot are:

- Jonas volunteered to help him and The Giver gasped please, he felt terrible for giving Jonas the memory because its so bad, but, The Giver felt better afterwards. At this point in the chapter, I knew the memory wasn't going to be good. I knew that because if he was struggling about a rainbow, it wouldn't make sense considering rainbows make people happy!

- Once the memory was over, The Giver seemed sick to his stomach. He hated the fact that he had to give that memory to Jonas. It made him so upset, this is why I thought The Giver may be a good guy, and is also caring. When reading this part, I felt a connection to Home Alone, in Home Alone, the neighbour of Kevin seems terrifying. At the start, when we first heard about him, he seemed like the person everyone would be scared of. In Home alone the same thing. And then later on in Home Alone, we figure out the neighbour is actually a great guy!! I feel that The Giver is actually a great guy too!

Main Plot:
After reading this chapter, I feel like this chapter is an important one. In this chapter we get to see the Memory of Christmas. The memory involved snow, a tree indoors which was odd and lights. One thing he caught by surprise was the fireplace. Which we get to see they do not celebrate in the community. I think that's awful. Christmas is a time to celebrate Jesus' birthday and have your friends and loved ones gathered for a feast and to give, normally presents. This memory carried 2 new things, love and grandparents. Jonas asked The Giver what Grandparents are and he explained. Jonas also discovered the word love, which is having feelings for someone.
More details of the main plot are:

- The chapter starts with Jonas really not wanting to go back to the Annex room. He was so disturbed by his last memory from The Giver, but built up the courage to go see him again.

- The Giver was still upset about yesterday, and having to do that to Jonas. The Giver gives him his favourite memory because of what happened the day before.

- Jonas discovered 2 old people in the Memory. He was confused because old people have to stay in the house of old. He asked why they were there, and they are called grandparents, which are also known as the parents of your parents, which he never thought about before.

- The Giver and Jonas talked about how they can benefit from love, but, also how they can't benefit from it.

- After learning what love meant, Jonas asks his parents if they still loved him, which wasn't a very common word used in the Community.

- Jonas allowed Gabriel to sleep in his room because he has been sleeping peacefully, but Jonas has been transmitting a lit of peaceful memories to him, which is against the rules, but he says the rules will change very soon, which I think he means he will assure the rules will change for the good.

- In the end of this chapter, Jonas makes the choice to not take his pills because something from the memories were telling him not to.

And why didn't he take them?
- Will Jonas even be effected from this story?
- Will Jonas give all of his good memories to Gabriel?
- Will the community ever celebrate Christmas?

Predictions:

In this chapter, we were left on yet another cliffhanger, and we were left in confusion with a lot of questions. I have a bad feeling that Jonas will be caught giving his good memories to Gabriel, and he may be released from that. Gabriel will have all the memories already, so he will automatically become the new Receiver of Memory. I think Christmas will be brought up into the community after Jonas applies for a change of rules. Everyone will be confused on what is going on and Jonas will have to tel them what Christmas is, which can cause chaos and people being frustrated that they don't do what everyone else in the world does. I think that's when the Community will start demanding for answers and Jonas will have to tell them all the memories.

This one was not a bad one though, this one was a happy one, in fact, The Givers favourite memory. The memory was called Christmas. It was about a family getting together and opening wrapped gifts. There was a tree in the house which Jonas was confused about because trees belong outside. This tree he was looking at also had little things on them, which are called ornaments. The thing he was looking at was called a Christmas tree. Without a Christmas tree, Christmas would be really different.

Main Plot:
In this chapter of The Giver, they had an unscheduled holiday. He got to see that his life will never be the same after having to receive those memories. He saw that at the park when he met up with Asher and Fiona, they were playing a game that involved weapons and scared him. This reminds me of things that happen in the near future after watching a horror movie. Normally when I watch a horror movie, I get scared of the things that have happened in the movie, for example: If the movie was "It" and I went to the Carp Fair the next day and saw a clown, of course I'd be scared. But if I watched "It" a year before I go to the Carp Fair I wouldn't be scared anymore.
More details of the main plot are:

- At the start of the chapter it is brought up that he hasn't taken his pills in the past 4 weeks and has had his pills come back, but he is ok with them because he thinks he should have emotions, and he can see a lot more things like colours which the pills didn't let him do.

- He took off on his bike after hearing that it was an unscheduled holiday and wanted to go see Asher and Fiona at the park where they were playing the war game which was fake and where Jonas was scarred.

- Him and Asher were fighting because Jonas pleaded that Asher never plays the game again, where Asher tells him that since he is the Receiver of Memory doesn't mean he gets to boss Asher around. Then Asher apologizes sarcastically and Jonas takes off with Fiona to bike on the river.

- Jonas goes home afterwards and finds that his father wants to go to bed early that night, because the twins he was talking about before were being born the next day. His father will have to choose one of the babies to release and one to keep.

- In the end, Lily was talking about how everyone in the community may have a twin, and may just be brought to another community which she called elsewhere. I think this is a really great observation, I think this may be a possibility.

Has he already?

Predictions:

I think after this chapter, Lily may have a point. Lily may also be right. Everyone may be twins, and the one they keep is what they call "released," but maybe that just means something different from it means when you are released as an old person or break a rule when you are a 6. I think people may actually go to another community where they live their life. This may be like the Hunger Games, the rich lived in District 1. And the poor lived everywhere else. Maybe they are in the "District 1" of the whole society. They keep the biggest and best baby and then the smaller one goes to another district. I think when you are released otherwise, they either may bring you to another district where you live until you die, or, they kill you. I'm not sure if that's what happens, but it's a possibility

Jonas saw them playing a game that scared him and asked him to stop immediately. Asher was not happy because he felt like he was being bossed around. One big thing that caught me in this chapter is that they got in a fight.

Main Plot:
In this chapter, we get to see Jonas pose a lot of questions about Rosemary. The start of the job for her was exactly the same, she was selected and then did training just like Jonas did. The Giver gave her all these happy memories, until it was time to show some bad ones, because he was going to run out of good memories. One day, she stood up and just walked out. She went straight to apply for a release. Jonas was then confused because he cannot apply for the release. But then we hear the rules for his job changed. This made the whole community upset, but especially The Giver, because he wasn't just the person who gave the memories. He loved her. Let's not forget that in the last chapter Jonas got in trouble for asking his parents if they loved him. They later reprimanded him because love is such a strong and unpopular word.
More details of the main plot are:

- At the start of the chapter, Jonas and the Giver talked about release and if they ever think about it.

- We later circled back to releasing. Because Rosemary was able to get a release, but why couldn't he? It's because they switched the rules. Plus, the community would take a huge hit if he just was released. This is because if he were to get released, all the good memories would go to the people of the community, but also all the bad ones too. It would hurt and traumatized all the people in the community

- They talked about the river, and if Jonas were to possibly die in there, he later snaps out of it because he knows how to swim. The Giver tells him just to be safe just in case something happens. They later giggle to the fact that it wouldn't be a problem. This reminds me of our life we have here, parents always say be safe in the water, or don't run near the pool. And yet to always have an eagles eye on their kid, to make sure they are ok if they do fall into the water. I'm guessing The Giver is saying be careful just in case you fall in. And just like a typical river, there is probably a current.

I think we will get to find out one more thing about her. I really think her and The Giver have some other connection. My instinct is maybe he raised her. Because I don't think he would have taken the fact that she was released so poorly, falling apart 10 years after it happened. I think he is her dad. I also do not think Jonas and Asher will work things out. I think after that fight things are over, and her new best friend may be Fiona. But I know he is going to talk to The Giver that much more than her so maybe they will become really close. Well, I think they will because they will be seeing each other almost every day. I think in the next chapter we may see Jonas' father telling the family which twin he ended up picking. Now that Jonas knows what released means, I think he will take it that much more seriously and mourn the baby that died.

In chapter 18, we heard a lot about Rosemary, the girl that went to get herself released because she got a terrible memory from The Giver. They called that failing her job. In the last chapter, I did a broken heart as the picture, this chapter can easily be a broken heart too, because of how sad The Giver was. One thing they really talked about in this chapter was the river, it seems so bad. We also talked about it at the start of the book, when Jonas was at the first day of ceremonies, having lunch in the cafeteria and Asher was talking about that poor 6 that drowned in the river. I think it has a current like every river would, so its hard for people to survive from it. But I think its possible.

Main Plot:
This chapter started with Jonas talking more about release, and how his father had released a one of a twin this morning. Later The Giver reminded Jonas he can ask anyone any question, so if he wanted to see what happened with the release of one of the twins, he can simply ask to see if because it is recorded. Jonas then went to the speaker and asked if they can show him the footage. They watched his father walk in with the baby, he was talking with the voice he talks to with Gabriel. He was getting ready for the procedure, which Jonas thought started with a few shots like a normal baby would get. But, as he was preparing the needle, he stuck it in the forehead of the smaller baby. He said he needed to do that because the vein in his arm were too small, I'm guessing they are too small because this baby only weighs 5 pounds. Jonas was so confused, but once the procedure was done, he watched his father wrap him up with a few blankets, because Jonas assumed the procedure of releasing started after his father wrapped him up. But the baby's head just fell over. The procedure was the needle going into the baby's head. I think it was respectful to wrap the baby up in a nice blanket, but what happened next was just pure shame and awfulness. They start throwing out the needle wrappers and needle down the chute, but then they throw the baby down too. They threw the baby into the garbage! That is terrible in my opinion! We don't even do that with animals, so I don't know why they are so sick to throw a baby into the garbage.
More details of the main plot are:

- Jonas watched, talking but the Giver shushed him, so they didn't have to watch it a second time.

- As Jonas watched the release happen, he got the memory or Warfare, my thought is because this was violence.

- The Giver was talking about how he watched Rosemary be released, he was hurt, she offered to stick the needle in herself. He couldn't watch it was too hard for him. No matter who I'd be watching, It would be way too hard to watch someone die!

And just give them to 2 different families?
- Am I the only one who thinks Rosemary wanted to be released?
- Will Jonas even go home after watching the video of his dad?
- How did The Giver know when Jonas' dad was going to say the thing about the vein or the fact he even was going to say it? Has he seen it before?
- Will Jonas ever tell Lily or his mother about what happens when someone is released?
- Will Jonas ever be healed from what this job has done to him?

Predictions:

After this chapter, we finally get to see what releasing is! I don't think Jonas will see his dad after what he saw in the video. I'm saying that because he said "My dad killed him." I think he will see his dad as a killer now, and not talk to him the same, act the same but I do think he will be scared of him. I think Jonas' mom knows what it means, because we got hints about it at the start of the book but now it makes even more sense because Jonas' dad has released people, and he possibly has told her what it meant. I was also wrong about believing Lily in chapter 17 when she said that maybe everyone is twins. I still think The Giver had a connection to Rosemary before she was released, I am still thinking she was his daughter.

A few chapters ago, I thought it had to do with them releasing them to another community where they grow up with another family, (used Hunger Games as an example) but it actually has to do with a needle. The stuff inside the needle kills people too. Without it, releasing wouldn't exist. Life would be better without it.

Main Plot:
In this chapter, we got to see an escape plan for Jonas, so he can leave the community and start a new life in what they call "elsewhere." I feel like the place they call elsewhere is our world. I think they are on our planet, but they don't talk about it, and aren't connected to our society. I don't think they want to tell the people what our world is because they will hear about how much more freedom we have than they do, and they will want to leave. Jonas stayed the night in the Annex room with The Giver, and that is where they came up with the idea to have Jonas escape the community.
More details of the main plot are:

- The chapter started with Jonas crying his heart out because of how he watched his father release one of the twins, which in other words, he watched his father kill the baby. He stayed with The Giver that night, because he didn't want to go home, to his father. The Giver told Jonas' family he was going to stay with him to do some more training, but they actually made a plan for him to escape into elsewhere.

- We learn that if Jonas escapes, he will never be able to come back in, which is the most scary part. I think they have a huge wall. They possibly have a door that you can only go through one way, because the other door is locked on the outside.

- We got to learn that The Giver had hearing beyond, he can hear something called music.

- For the next two weeks, before the December Ceremony approached, The Giver would transfer every memory of courage and strength that he could to Jonas. He would need those to help him find the Elsewhere that they were both sure existed. They knew it would be a very difficult journey. Then, in the middle of the night before the Ceremony, Jonas would leave his dwelling quietly. This was probably the most dangerous part, because it was a violation of a major rule for any citizen, they are not allowed to leave their dwelling at night. He would leave at midnight nobody was out and go to the Annex room, where The Giver will be. His family will wake up and see that he is gone, but he will leave a note saying he went out for a bike ride along the river. They would call a car and drive him out to the community limits. His family would be forced to head out to the ceremony, when they get there they think he is sitting with Asher. Asher will think he's sitting with his parents. They wouldn't interrupt the ceremony, but once they realized he wasn't there, he'd be gone. The Giver would come back and say he was lost in the river.

Questions:

- Will Jonas succeed the escape?
- Why didn't The Giver tell Jonas that Rosemary was his daughter?
- In the end when The Giver said he wanted to be with his daughter, does that mean he is going to get himself released like she did?
- Will Jonas ever talk to Asher again?
- Will Jonas stay with The Giver for the next 2 weeks?
- What's going to happen with Gabriel? Will he miss Jonas like the rest of his family?

Predictions:

So, I was right about Rosemary being The Giver's daughter! I really saw that happening because of how much he loved her. I have no doubt that Jonas will succeed with the escape, but I have a feeling he will bring Gabriel because he has pale eyes. He may become the Receiver of Memory when he turns into a 12. He will see all the doubts and how they have no freedom. He will want to escape like Jonas did, so I think Jonas will just bring him. I also don't think Jonas will talk to anyone else much other than The Giver, he may be helping him pack food and arrange things, so he can get prepared for the big day.

In this chapter, we found out that Jonas is going to escape the community. I think that Jonas will get through and do it, but I can't stop but get the feeling that the community seems like a prison. People are forced to do jobs, where they don't make any money. They have to do many other things that make the community look like a prison. One main thing though is all the rules, why so much? I wish we knew but we don't. Will we ever?

Main Plot:
In this chapter, Jonas is on route to escape the community. But this time, his plan changed. He didn't get a ride in the car, he went to see The Giver, and after, he biked out of town. But, he didn't have his bike, he had his father. He needed his father's bike because he needed the baby seat because he decided to bring Gabriel with him. He thought it would be smart to bring Gabriel because he would have been released the next day, so he saved his life pretty much. Jonas' plan was to bike in the nighttime, so he was never going to be caught. He decided to sleep in the day because they both needed sleep. With the memories The Giver gave Jonas, he gave them all to Gabriel, so they could both sleep. They slept in the bushes, hidden from the outer world, so they were never caught.
More details of the main plot are:

- Jonas made sure Gabriel got some physical activity into himself, like running around some fields or trees, so he was tired. I would have done the same thing, for one made him tired, but also make sure he did something productive because it isn't healthy to not do anything.

- One thing that scared Jonas were the planes. He knew they were search planes, looking for him and Gabriel.

- In school he learned that the planes have special technology that can see heat, so they would know that they can see him and Gabriel huddled because they would be making heat. But he also knew the pilots cannot see colour. So they cannot see Gabriel's golden curled hair.

- Jonas was being super smart, when the planes came over them, he transmitted stories of snow to Gabriel but saved some for himself, so that after the planes were gone, they were both shivering from the coldness.

- Jonas realized that he didn't have many memories that were cold or happy anymore. But that's what he wanted, and he knew that would happen.

- Jonas and Gabriel were always watching out for planes, even at night. Whenever they saw them, they would yell plane and hide as fast as they could, although, sometimes it was really close.

- The planes started to fade the further they went. They kept going and looking for spots if one came. But then one day and night, not one came at all.

Will everyone be mad and sad?

Predictions:

So, after this chapter, we figured out that Jonas took Gabriel with him. So I was right! I have a feeling that the elsewhere may exist, I think Jonas is in it now. I think he will find his way out, maybe he will just walk into a city, and he will be confused because he's never seen it before. I think he will see many people just doing things freely and be jealous he didn't have that like for almost 13 years of his life. I think he will find an apartment, and maybe a job. I think he may raise Gabriel, or they may both be adopted. I cannot wait to see how the rest of this book works itself out!

In this chapter, we saw Jonas finally get out of the community. His plan changed though. He now brought Gabriel with him because he was going to be released, and he knew what that meant, so Jonas saved him from death, which was the best thing someone can do to another person in my opinion. They left, and right now, are still alive and ok. The style of land has changed though, its gone from livable with water, to nothing. Just bushes and miles of land from the sounds of it. Is he going to survive from all of this?

He hit a rock because the road he was biking on got super narrow, and people weren't building it. He cut his leg on a rock and twisted his ankle on after falling. But he knew he was hurt but the first thing he did was make sure Gabriel was ok. I think that is an awesome thing to do. It shows us even more that he is the type of person who doesn't care what happens to him, but makes sure the person he is with is ok.

Main Plot:
In this chapter, Jonas was still escaping the community, with Gabriel. We got to see that the whole form of landscape and world has changed. They were biking on what is now a rocky pathway, where it's hard to bike on, and Gabriel found a plane, at least he thought it was a plane. Jonas saw the object Gabriel was pointing at, and he knew what the thing was. It was a bird, something he never saw in the community. He knew it was a bird from memories, but, they do not have any or many animals from where they were coming from. They kept biking, they passed deer and an animal with a thick tail, Jonas was not able to identify. Jonas really wanted to keep going and get it where they were going.
More details of the main plot are:

- Jonas made sure Gabriel got some physical activity into himself, like running around some fields or trees, so he was tired. I would have done the same thing, for one made him tired, but also make sure he did something productive because it isn't healthy to not do anything.

- The chapter started with Jonas taking a bail on the bike because the road they were biking on wasn't paved, because this was too far from the community, they just didn't pave.

- Jonas and Gabriel helped themselves to some fresh water, as there was a flowing river next to them as they were biking. They also caught a few fish. I wonder if the river that they are drinking is the same river that is in the community...

- Jonas knew they were far from the community now, they also haven't seen a plane in days. I think the reason why they haven't seen a plane in days is because they are now so far from the community, the planes do not have enough gas to get to where they are and back. That or they just gave up.

- Jonas started biking in the days because he hasn't seen planes in days.

- The chapter ended with Jonas and Gabriel crying. Gabriel was crying because this was a lot on him, and he was now starving! Jonas was crying because he thought Gabriel was going to starve too, and he felt like he ruined Gabriel's life. This shows us a lot more for Jonas' character trait, but also, If my older brothers were like that with me, I think my life would be so much different. I think I would be a lot happier knowing they have my back, but in reality, I'm not sure if they do.

I do think they will survive from starvation, but it may be really close. I am also getting the impression they are moving up north. From the sounds of it, the community may be a desert. They are moving north where there are thick trees and animals running freely. Kind of like Northern Ontario, lots of trees and nature. Is next up snow though? I think so, because they are moving up north I think. Now its not just starving to death, but possibly also freezing to death...

If Lois Lowry were to write another book based off of this one, then these words may have something to do with the next book, but I don't think there will be another book.
The keywords are:

To Give: Freely transfer the possession of (something) to (someone); hand over to.

To receive: Be given, presented with, or paid (something).

Shivering: Shaking slightly and uncontrollably as a result of being cold, frightened, or excited.

Warmth: The quality, state, or sensation of being warm; moderate and comfortable heat.

- Jonas
After this chapter, we get to see more from Jonas and how he never gave up on the journey. He couldn't bike after the snow took over, and he was no longer able to petal, so he started to walk. I think this shows that he was persevering to get to his destination, to save Gabriel, which shows us even more about how he is caring. After this novel, we got to meet Jonas as a character that didn't want the best for him, but for others. He was really caring for others, but was also really smart. I think he also had a mindset of always succeeding no matter how much effort it would take, and we saw that when he broke Gabriel out and made a run from the community and get to elsewhere, where Gabriel could live a great life.
- Lily
Lily seemed like the person who was really smart, and always making the best decisions for herself and to stay out of trouble. She also seemed funny, I think a lot of people like her in the community because she seems like the person who would never make a mistake, and is also really smart and funny.

- Asher
Asher, oh Asher... He was Jonas' best friend throughout the whole novel, but towards the end they got in a fight and it never seems that they talked to each other again. Asher seemed hilarious, just like Lily, but he didn't seem like he was smart. I personally like it when the Chief Elder called him out at the ceremony because he said smack, instead of smack when he was little! I think Asher played an important role in this book and without him it would be really different.
- Jonas' Mom

We didn't see much of Jonas' mom, but she seemed like the person who was always following the rules, but also made sure she had the best for her children, so it didn't make her loom like she was a bad person.
- Jonas' Dad
We also did not see much of Jonas' father. He seemed like the person who was making sure his children were ok, but also can see when something is wrong with them. Jonas' dad also seemed like the person to always do what he is asked, I think that because he had to release children.
- Gabriel
In this chapter, we got to see Gabriel try to survive. He was trying the hardest he could to make sure him and Jonas could keep going to get to freedom. This shows us more that Gabriel seemed like a type of baby that doesn't make a pain for peoples loves, and that is a rare thing for babies. In this book, we got to see Gabriel come from a little shrimp to a baby that couldn't sleep at night. He seemed like a normal baby, but he seemed cute.

- Fiona
Fiona was Jonas' good friend, but not as close as him and Asher. Fiona was the reason why Jonas took stirrings, but she didn't know. Fiona seemed really smart, and really interested in the old people. She seemed like a great person, and I think the book would be really different if she wasn't in it.

- The Giver
The Giver, I felt that at the start, once we met him, he seemed really shady. I think he seemed almost scary. Over the chapters, the more we got to see his personality, the more I thought he was actually an awesome person. The Giver the person that planned Jonas' escape, because he cared that much for Jonas. He and Jonas had a bond by the end of the book, and I think it was a special one. Anyways, The Giver seemed like he was really nice and caring. The book wouldn't exist without him in it, considering the book is called The Giver.

Main Plot:
In this chapter, we got to see Jonas and Gabriel continue their journey heading to the place they called elsewhere. Jonas can sense they were almost there, but they got caught up in snow, so it was super hard to bike. Jonas did not give up, he thought he was almost there, but then he had to climb up a big hill, it was really windy so it was a struggle for Jonas. They kept moving, got up the hill and just laid in the snow. Jonas looked over, and saw a sled, with a huge decline in front. He knew what this meant because of the memory of snow. He jumped onto the sled and fled down the hill. As they were coming down, Jonas heard something. HE thought it was music. He learned what music was from The Giver, he said he can hear beyond. He also thought it could have been an echo, that's where the book ended.
More details of the main plot are:

- Gabriel was freezing, he needed warmth. Jonas put him inside his tunic, so he can warm up before Jonas thought of an awesome idea.

- Jonas pulled some warm memories out and gave them to Gabriel, like the memory of sunshine. Gabriel suddenly warmed up.

- Jonas was upset because if he knew he was going to head into snow, he would have asked The Giver for all the warm memories he had.

Questions:

- Did Jonas and Gabriel die?
- Where is elsewhere? What does it look like? Is it all snowy?
- Will Jonas and Gabriel starve? Have they?
- What was the music Jonas was hearing?
- Is everyone still looking for them? Or have they given up...?
- Were the memories given to everyone in the community yet? How will it impact them?
- Will Jonas be happy in the end if he finds what he is looking for?

Predictions:

So, there isn't much I can write for this part, because the book is over. But, I think Jonas and Gabriel made it too elsewhere! I was also right about them moving up north, I thought that because of how the land was changing. So, I think they found elsewhere, because of the music. They probably came down the hill on the sled and heard the music. They probably turned a corner and found a city with warmth and shelter. I think Jonas will raise Gabriel, and they will stick together. I think by the time they settle in, Jonas would be his guardian, but, I am not sure because he isn't 18 and if he walked into our world, he would see that you cannot get a full time job, raise a child and pretty much be an adult, because of your age.

After this chapter, we saw Jonas and Gabriel continue on their journey to make it to elsewhere. I think they made it personally. But they were both freezing, possibly to death. I think the most important part and the part that stuck out the most out of this chapter must have been the fact that he found a sled, took it and went down the hill, I think this is really cool because he had a memory exactly like this.

Its not something you control so why do only 3 have light eyes and the rest are dark?
Because most people are born with dark eyes.
- Will Gabriel play a big role in the rest of the book?
Yep!
- Because Jonas and Gabriel have the very rare light eyes, do we think they are related?
Possibly, but it may just be a coincidence.

Chapter 4:
- Why is there a rule in place where you can only look at the old people or babies nude?
I think it may be uncomfortable for a lot of people.
- Are elders actually old people? Or is that just a name for them?
Yes, they're just old.
- How do you die when you are released?
You get a needle and pass out, never wake up.
- Do people choose when to go or is it when you have no more things left in your life you are released?
You don't choose, you get assigned just like when you are assigned a job.
- Why did Larissa talk about her friends that were released?
She was talking about how wonderful their lives were.
Chapter 5:
- Why do people who get stirrings have to take the pill?
They have to take the pills because people are not allowed to have feelings.
- Why do people not talk about it when or if somebody takes their pills?
I think it's just because people aren't comfortable talking about them.
- Is it always just a coincidence that Lily isn't around when conversations about this happen? Or is she not allowed to be around?
We never figured out.
- If Lily isn't allowed to be around when these conversations happen, why would that be?
We never figured out.
- Does Jonas' Mom know what happens when you are released? Because it seems like she does.
We never figured out.
- When will we figure out if Jonas' parents could keep Gabriel?
We figure out later in the book, around chapter 20.
- Why don't we know Jonas' parents names yet?
We never got to see their names, I don't know why.
- What month are we in because I'd like to know if we are either close to December or not...
I think we were in November, because the ceremony wasn't much later than this chapter.

Chapter 6:
- What job will Jonas be assigned? Will he enjoy it?
Jonas will be assigned the Receiver of Memory, he did not enjoy it.
- Will Jonas and Asher work together?
No.
- Will Jonas and Asher stay as close as they are now or is their friendship in jeopardy?
Their friendship did not work out towards the end of the book.
- Why don't people mourn the deaths for people who were released but mourn the people who were lost? They both went to the same place...
We never really got an answer for that.
- Will Jonas be a Pilot? Will he get the only job we know so far that he doesn't want.
No.
- Why is December chosen to be the month when they do the ceremonies? Why not in January when it's a new year?
We don't know.
- How can parents have 2 different aged children when they get 2 children in the same year (When they get their first children?)
They can apply for children in separate years, I think.

Chapter 7:
- Was Jonas genuinely forgotten or was he skipped?
He was skipped because he was selected.
- If he was skipped what did he do wrong?
Nothing.
- Since they were talking about how many things Asher has done wrong like speaking too fast or just forgetting, why hasn't he been released?
I'm not sure.
- Why didn't anyone say anything about Jonas' turn being skipped? Is that a rule?
I'm not sure.
- Why do they have to use the birth numbers to order when they can alphabetically order people like we do in our world?
It's their way to label people, because I don't think they have last names.

- What was his parents and Lily going through when Jonas was skipped?
I'm not sure.

- Did he not complete the amount of volunteer hours that he should have done?
Nope, he did nothing wrong.

Chapter 8:
- Why did they leave Jonas until the end when they could've called him up at his number like everyone else?
Because he was selected.
- What's the difference between selected and assigned?
Really, nothing.
- What is Jonas' job?
To take old memories from the past.
- Why is Jonas' job apparently hard-working and such pain?
Because some memories are from the past, and it's tough.
- Why does his job need intelligence, integrity and wisdom?
Because he needs to make sure those things don't happen again.

- What were Jonas' parents going through? Were they proud of afraid?
I'm not sure.

- Why was Jonas selected for the job out of everyone else?
Because he had the qualifications for the job.
- What makes him so suitable and special for the job he was selected for?

Because he had pale eyes, and the right qualifications.
