It would work best if you can ask the probing questions to earlier interviewees. That is being able to re-interview participants. Organising this, considerations of the impact on the interviewees if it is a sensitive or challenging topic are challenges that come to mind.

Easy to understand in general, being similar to unstructured interview process to start with. Although it seems like a 'typical' interview (designed by the researcher), Dick suggests that theory is being generated by participants through the probing process (making it PAR-friendly)

Interviewees may not be available/open to subsequent probing interviews. Trying to probe in one interview doesn't really allow interviewers to analyse and devise probing questions.
