According to Newton's First Law of Motion, a soccer ball will stay at rest unless a force of some sort moves it, and it will stay in motion unless a different force stops it. The force that usually moves the soccer ball is the player's kick. Another player blocks its motion.

According to Newton's Second Law, the force behind the soccer ball equals its mass times acceleration, in the equation F =ma. A hard kick will move the soccer ball farther and faster than a soft kick. The acceleration of the ball depends upon how much force behind the kick.

Weight and mass have effects in the sport. if the soccer ball weighs more, it is harder to kick the more the player works weighs the harder they can kick. The disadvantage to weighing more is, you can't run as long or as fast as a lighter player.

Consider the role friction plays in your sport. In what circumstances is friction desirable?

Friction is greatly involved in soccer, and all four types are included. First, and most obviously, rolling friction is often involved because as the soccer ball rolls across the grass field, rolling friction acts upon the ball and causes it to slow down and eventually stop. Rolling friction is the friction that acts upon an object when it rolls across a surface. Sliding friction is also very much involved because as the players run down the field, sliding friction helps them move down the field without their feet sliding every-which-way. Sliding friction occurs when two solid objects slide over each other. In other words, running is an example of sliding friction, and running is a vital part to soccer. Next, fluid friction is important to soccer because balls are often kicked in the air. As players move to head or control a ball, the fluid friction acts upon the ball, slowing it down in the air to give the players time to get in position
