Why is this important for my course?

Pharmacy students need to understand water because many medicines rely on it to dissolve, travel through the body, and work properly. Water’s special qualities affect how drugs are absorbed, how stable they are, and how they move inside us. Most drug reactions in the body happen in water-based environments, so knowing about water helps students make and use medicines safely and effectively.

Click on the image above to download and read some notes on this topic.

Or you may prefer to watch this 11 minute video from Study Mind.

Why is this important for my course?

It is important for pharmacy students to understand basic carbohydrate ideas, because many medicines interact with sugars in the body. Learning about molecules like glucose and glycogen helps students see how the body uses energy, how drugs work (especially those that change blood sugar), and how some medicines made from glycoproteins act. Also, knowing about hydrolysis and how sugars join together is needed to understand how the body breaks down drugs and how some medicines are designed to be activated by the body.

Click on the image above to download and read some notes on this topic.

Or you may prefer to watch this 8 minute video from Mr Exham Biology.

Why is this important for my course?

Pharmacy students need to understand lipids because these molecules affect how drugs are delivered, absorbed, and processed in the body. Many medicines use lipids or interact with them, so knowing about triglycerides, phospholipids, and cholesterol helps students learn how drugs work and move through the body. Problems with lipid metabolism are linked to diseases like heart problems and diabetes, which are treated with medicines.

Click on the image above to download and read some notes on this topic.

Or you may prefer to watch this 7 minute video from PXSBiology.

Why is this important for my course?

Pharmacy students need to know about inorganic ions because many medicines affect or are affected by these ions in the body. The way drugs are taken in, move around, and leave the body can change depending on ion levels. Knowing about ions like sodium, potassium, and calcium helps pharmacists spot side effects and handle dangerous changes in body salts. This knowledge is also important for safely giving medicines that change ion levels, such as water tablets or supplements.

Click on the image above to download and read some notes on this topic.

Or you may prefer to watch this 9 minute video from Study Mind.
