“I have been married eleven years and I got a boy who sleeps in the livingroom -- and all I got to give him is stories about how rich white people live…” (p. 34).

This quote shows Walter is loving because Walter puts his son to sleep every night then reads them a book. Walter also said that hes been married for eleven years to a girl that he married. But, on the other hand, Walter tells us that his son sleeps in the living room because that's all he has for him to sleep. This quote shows Walter is ambitious because Walter thinks he can do everything done his self. He also thinks he can run the family his self and make everything go as if it was his own family. When things start to go down the wrong path he just gives up instead of trying his hardest to over come it. I feel as though Walter is not very sympathize because he doesn't exactly know how he feels about certain things. He also doesn't know how to be the husband that he is supposed to be. In my opinion of Walter I think he could be a good person sometimes. Everyday he wakes up and says this is another day I will help the family. From the image of art you can tell that the girl reaching her way up to get to the very top. Also, from the art I noticed how the girl might be stuck in all the branches from the trees and she only has one of her arm free. What I think this art is trying o convey is to push yourself til you get and to try your hardest no matter how far left down or behind you are. This connects to my character because I feel as though Walter is struggling to work with the family. When Hughes says in the poem "It is as a raisin that dries up in the sun" is when Walter looses all of the insurance money that Mama gave him and he can now no longer have his own liquor store. Also, how Walter lost all of his hope for doing anything in his life. Walters life sages and then just gets worse everyday after that. I think the lyrics from this song relate to Walter because at the end of the book Walter finally becomes the man of the house. He learns how to actually control himself when things aren't going as planned. I chose this theme because in the book when Mama wanted the check to support the whole family and to make sure all of the family members have what they need to stay alive and not just for herself but, on the other hand, Walter wanted the check for himself. 

Support: According to the book it states, “(Turning on him with a sharpness all her own) That money belongs to Mama, Walter, and it's for her to decide how she wants to use it. I don't care if she wants to buy a house or a rocket ship or just nail it up somewhere and look at it. It’s hers. Not our-- hers” (37).

This quote supports the theme because Mama has decided to use the money for the whole family, not just her. She thinks by doing this it might benefit the family and make things a little better. Mama also suggested about getting a new house thinking it would resolve all of the family problems.
