Please note there is a student capacity of 150 students. I would advise a targeted approach on any students who would like to work outdoors, are hands on learners and may not know what their next steps are.

You'll spend time across the workshop and the office, working through real tasks alongside the team rather than watching from the sidelines. The program is built to cover the key parts of the job, so by the end you've got a clear sense of what being a mechanic at mycar involves day to day.

A qualified Technician supervises the whole time, which means you're never thrown in the deep end or left wondering what you're meant to be doing. The focus is on making sure you feel welcome, comfortable, and safe while you find your feet.

mycar Work Experience Guide

Over five immersive days, participants will gain hands-on experience in either carpentry, waterproofing or painting, while exploring a career in construction with one of Australia’s most awarded builders. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop real-world experience, build confidence, and explore high-demand trades in a supportive environment.

2026 work experience dates

Students can take part in a one week placement during the 2026 September school holidays:

• Week 1: 21 - 25 September OR

• Week 2: 28 September – 2 October

Selection criteria

Students must submit a Resume/CV as well as meeting the following criteria:

• Be in Year 11 or 12 and available for work experience in September 2026 school holidays

• Working towards achieving P1 license (driver’s license preferred but not essential)

• Have had previous, relevant work experience 

• Hold a Certificate II or II in Engineering (ideal but not essential)
