Taking courses to better yourself as an educator is a big example of growth. It means putting in the work to make sure that you are doing the best that you can do for your students and yourself. Growth isn't always linear or fast. While taking courses it can feel like things aren't moving fast enough, or sometimes like it's throwing you off course of what you thought you wanted to be doing, but it's all working toward the goal you set out for yourself.

Technology in the classroom is a change that I have personally seen happen throughout my years at my school. My current room didn't have a smart board until 5 years ago. The classroom next to mine got theirs 5 years ago. My team teacher was quite a bit older than me and struggled with a closed mindset. This immediate change for her was so difficult because she struggled with understanding how to use it and never WANTED it in the first place. It was sad for me to watch this, but it also made me promise myself that I would never be that teacher who refused to try new things because they were intimidating. It opened my eyes to the importance of growth mindset and being open for change.

This was a HUGE change for both teachers and students, and it happened so suddenly not many of us had time to even understand how big of a change it was until we were past it. Looking back, we were all asked to do the unthinkable: keep a group of 20 kids involved in learning through a screen for 7 hours a day, indefinitely. This took so much growth mindset on both the teachers and students parts as well as the families involved. It was a true example of growth mindset, and understanding that we were all in it together and working towards our goals together. If COVID, e-learning, and hybrid teaching taught me anything it was that I can do pretty much anything in the classroom when I put my mind to it. It took a lot of innovation and quick thinking!
