To focus attention, a person must concentrate on the object at hand while also ignoring other insignificant stimuli.. This hit me the hardest because now a days it is so easy to get distracted while you are trying to have a conversation. Your phone rings, you get a text, you notice a notification on your Facebook app. etc etc. To pay attention to someone you need to completely focus all of your attention on that one person. It is important to give children this attention while they are young. Even if it is something that is not interesting to you or cool to you. Because you want these same children to come and talk to you and feel comfortable talking to you, if something really truly important needs to be said.

I think the biggest struggle with time sampling is finding time to do it. I think the best way to get everyone in would be to set a timer so you dont spent too much time on one child, this way you will have spend an even about of time on each child.
