This is really important because during this time her parents are out protesting and she isn’t sure if she can open up to them so having someone like her grandma to fall back on is really important especially during the chaotic times she is in. Another key thing to note is that she opens her arms and seems very passionate about what she is talking about which really goes to show how she is developing towards the person she wants to become and how she seems very engaged in the conversation she is having with her grandma. Lastly, the fact that both of them are smiling shows the positive relationship they have with each other and that the grandma is happy to listen to her ideas.

Her family also influences her to be a leader and to make change on her own. 

Her traditional tendencies will make her proud of her own country and be against any foreign influences. But, her familial culture will lead her to channel that prideful spirit into more secular and revolutionary thinking, which might create conflict in the future.

I like how the author contrasts shape and color in this panel. On the right, the edges are sharp and geometrical with a black background, giving off a scientific or almost sci-fi vibe. On the left, the veil is in harmony with the fluid curves of the black design on the white background. Both of these contrast each other, which shows hoe she is influenced by these factors and how they are almost tearing her apart internally.

Especially considering that the regime of the king and the new theocratic state are two sides of the same coin. Panel 1 on page 6 says, "I really didn't know what to think about the veil. Deep down I was very religious but as a family we were very modern and avant-garde." The home environment she grew up in was very much towards freedom, but she had different people influencing her to lean her towards the veil side. She believed God spoke to her in her dreams, so her relationship with God was very strong, leading her to the veil side. Overall, her environment was leading her to both sides, which is why she felt her identity was almost 'splitting.' The way it's illustrated shows the pull of both sides. Half her body is white, the other half is black. The side of her that's white, is placed in the predominantly black side, and vice versa. Instead of lying to him and giving up on her dream job, she exclaims that she won't give up. 

Marji has to lie during this time because the Islamic Revolution has caused Iran to become more westernized; therefore, abolishing religious views and hopes of ever becoming a prophet. Despite this, Marji believes that she can accomplish her dreams.

The writer is showing Marji standing on her bed with her arms out, and a smiling face, showing her enthusiasm as she expresses her determination. 

The author draws the panel with mostly black. The only white coloring is of Marji, god, the window, and the bed. I think the author is trying to block everything else out in the image so that the audience only focuses on the fact that she is talking to god in her bedroom. This way nobody is looking at the floor of her room or out the window, just at what is important.

She's being half influenced by her family's traditional religion, one that she grew up with. On the other side, she is being influenced by her family's modern beliefs that were created due to the political ideas of Iran. She's split between these two personalities in a way. Marji is in the middle between religion and modernization. She grew up with one, but has to get used to the other. I think that because she is this way, her ideas are that she enjoys being religious and taking part in her religion, while also finding out to see what modernization is doing to and for her. Her personality is shaped by this. She wants to be kind to others and make the world a better place by being that religious prophet. She also isn't opposed to the modernization and is kind of aware of what is going on.

The author did a really good job of showing that she is being split between two different identifies by splitting her in half. Essentially, one side of her is religious, one side of her is modernized. The background of the modern side is black, trying to show a darkness, while there is more white on the religious side showing a bright light. The type of school she went to before the revolution, which banned these type of schools in 1980. This is important because we can see why the author was confused about the veil on the first page of the book. She never had to wear a veil and had more personal freedom before 1980. 
We can also interpret her trait a little more from this picture, she may have a higher chance of being more rebellious since she is being forced to go to a whole different type of school, which was never part of her life during her early years. 
The author drew a picture of boys and girls playing in a French non-religious school. It compared to the other picture, how the whole school changed. After 1980, kids being separated between gender, wearing a veil, compared to before 1980, the kids being mixed in together, not being forced to wear a veil. This is important since it shows the readers how much the author's surroundings changed.

She is heavily influenced by her Zoroastrian religion and decides to write a holy book like other prophets. Even though she is young, she is already noticing things that she finds unfair, even when it comes to her own family. For example, in her holy book, she says that maids will always eat with the family, since it makes her sad when her maid has to eat alone. Her father has a car, but she feels strongly that everybody should have the privilege of owning a car. 
Her strong sense of ethics is infliuenced by the Iranian revolution at the time. As we learn from the chapter, her parents are actively involved in protesting, and Marji grows up listening to her parents discuss injustices under the new regime. Because of this, she creates her own set of values and a Holy book  about how things should work. 
The authors choice to have Marji stand in front of her Grandma in the picture and read her the rules shows that Marji grew up in an environment where she was encouraged to think independently and have her own opinions.
