The things that make Sudan special are:

Recently, in 2011, South Sudan voted to split from Sudan and they succeeded. Now, South Sudan is a different country. Pretty much, the Christians (South Sudan) split from the Muslims (Sudan). Also, the war is about money made from oil and how to split that money. There is a lot of war going on and about 1.5 million people have died. The religion in Sudan is mostly Sunni Muslim (a type of Islam) , but it is a little bit Christian and a religion called indigenous beliefs which is a combined belief of people in an area. The article Fast Facts states "Religions: Sunni Muslim 70% (in north), Christian 5% (mostly in south and Khartoum), indigenous beliefs 25%" The largest wetland in world is in Sudan. It is the Sudd. The climate is hot and humid in the south of Sudan, dry and very hot in the north, and it is rainy from April to October in Sudan. The birthday of Muhammad is considered a holiday for kids. There are unique sweets that the kids eat.

A lot of towns were ruined. 400,000 people are dead in the war. Also, this war has forced 2,500,000 out of their homes. the article Genocide in Darfur states “The genocide in Darfur has claimed 400,000 lives and displaced over 2,500,000 people.” Different people want control of certain parts of Sudan. The environment might be the cause of war because there are certain things going on. People want oil from the ground. People are taking oil from the ground and not caring about how they take it. That is bad for the environment. Some pipelines that bring oil from place to place, go through bodies of water.

Movement in Sudan is frequent (in some ways). Many push factors are in Sub Saharan Africa. For example, there used to be 2 civil wars for the freedom of South Sudan. Many refugees will be sent to another country. Also, there is a lot of poverty and hunger in Sudan. This shows that movement of people in Sudan is frequent. However, since there is poverty, ideas and goods cannot be moved a lot. Lack of transportation can stop goods from moving and lack of 4G networks can stop ideas from moving.

Source: Home of The Brave by Katherine Applegate

Human Characteristics (Features) of Sudan:

In Sudan, there are actually many very different buildings. The tallest building in Sudan's capital which is called Khartoum is 360 feet tall. That is the height of just the antenna of One World Trade in New York. 87% of the energy in Sudan goes to Khartoum. Since Sudan is mostly Muslim, there are a lot of mosques. The total amount of road in Sudan is 50,000 kilometers. When it rains, some roads are not possible to drive on. Houses are made out of things like mud, straw, and bricks. People also make houses out of tents. There are 61 airports in Sudan, but only 12 of them have smooth concrete runways. The total amount of railroad in Sudan is 5,500 kilometers. The article Sudan - Infrastructure, Power, and Communications states “The total railways length is 5,500 kilometers (3,418 miles).”
