Deliver: Lesson Plan & Reflection

The goal for this lesson plan is to give students the opportunity to come up with their own goals to achieve throughout the school year in a fun, interactive way. Challenges that I may have with the K-5 grade level while going through with this lesson plan would be the younger students who may have issues with understanding the process as well as staying focused and keeping them fully engaged throughout the lesson. I have developed my own personal spin on the lesson plan to assist with keeping the lesson fresh and interesting for students by switching up the theme every few weeks by taking theme requests from the students themselves to help them stay engaged.

Ward, C.
Manage: School Counselor Competency Assessment & Reflection

Overview

Overall, I feel that the assessment provided me with a thorough understanding of different views and approaches as well as a great understanding of the framework that is needed to guide school counselors successfully throughout their careers. Though, I could use some improvement in all areas that were discussed in the assessment, I know that I will continue to expand my knowledge and consistent practices as I progress through this program.

Areas Where I Did Well:

I did well with accessibility, advocacy, and student success. I figured that I would, since I am aware that I have a good mindset for assisting others with their needs as well as creating good rapports and relationships with others. I believe that getting the students access to opportunities and resources will be a strong suit of mine as a professional school counselor. I feel that I will do well with planning and assessment once I have all the appropriate knowledge and skills to assist the students. Direct and indirect student services are also one of the areas that I did well in. This goes in hand with me being a strong leader within the school community to be able to provide my expertise and ability to successfully contribute to the well-being of the students.

Areas That Need Some Work:

I realize that I will need improvement with my professional foundation. As time goes on, I know I will learn the proper policies and procedures to follow as a school counselor. Though this is just the beginning for me, I know I will grasp all there is to know throughout the rest of this program (Jaliyah Walton, 2023).
