"Way i see it, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.Even if i am barely sixteen. Nope, it ain't pretty, but fact is if i don't win, Gem don't eat", shows that he is motivated by his sister to earn money and support her(Sitomer 3). He is motivated by her because he wants what is best for his sister no matter what the circumstances are. He is motivated to train harder everyday and to win every fight so he can feed Gemma. In the novel McCutcheon is motivated by hi sister. 

In the book McCutcheon affects other characters in many ways. "My father ran to the side of the cage, panicked. What are you doing? What are you doing, M.D.?" tells that by losing his fight on purpose it would put his father in trouble with the priests(Sitomer 193). "What about her? Is she safe?" shows that McCutcheon is worried about if his life has interfered with Kaitlyn and put her in danger(Sitomer 214). Throughout the book he affects the life of many other characters. His actions have a huge impact on the outcome of the story and what takes place. McCutcheon is one of the primary characters in the story and is important in the book. 

I can not relate to McCutcheon because i do not experience the things that he does. I don't relate because he has to provide for his family and take care of his siblings. This is different from me because i do not have to take care of myself. I am also can't relate because i have never made a decision so bad that it puts my father in a dangerous position. This is the theme because throughout the book people are trying to escape things they are in. "After your fight he escaped, and turned snitch" shows that even McCutcheon's dad is trying to escape from the priest after he lost a bet(Sitomer 212). In the book McCutcheon is also trying to escape the MMA and go to school, "Dad, I wanna talk about school for a minute.I CAN BE MORE THAN AN ANIMAL!"(Sitomer 125). Many times throughout the book it shows signs of people trying to escae some type of danger. This is prominent in almost all the characters in  the book. "My wife, ya know, she left me. Blamed our daughter's death on me, I thought i was an idiot for bringing in the FBI and she did't want to go into it Sec. But i did go into Wit Sec...." this shows that even Mr.Freedman is trying to escape his dark past by helping others(Sitomer 119). So the universal theme is trying to escape. 

This is the universal theme because it applies to all people throughout the book. Everyone in the book is trying to escape something that is currently happening to them or that is in their past. That is why this is the universal theme o the novel. This is also relevant in the world today because in some way people are escaping situations present in their life. In this review it lays the foundations for Caged Warrior. It mentions how McCutcheon goes through parental abuse, poverty, and self-sacrifice. The review also talks about how the book being told through McCutcheon's perspective adds detail and emotion to the book itself. The review also pulls both views from his school life and his fighting life and how they influence the reader. This book review hits the main points portrayed in the book. 

I do agree with the person's view of the book because i felt the same way about the ideas in the review. "Caged Warrior is ultimately devoted to the ruthless reality it depicts", is one of the things i agree most with because the book shows  the true way that some kids live and have to go through(Michal Schick). The reason i agree with this review is because it accurately describes the tone of the book and and what people should get from this book. From the review i learned that some readers may be torn between the hope for a better future and that a life in a safe school may not be as interesting. In the book the main character McCutcheon Daniels participates in underground cage fighting to benefit his father. When he was a young boy his mother left the family and was the only source of income. So in order to feed his sister and himself he began to fight. In school McCutcheon was a good student and made good grades. In fact, he won the lottery to attend Radiance Academy, one of the top schools in the state. While touring the school he met a girl named Kaitlyn and he thought she was the most beautiful girl he had met. One him and his dad were arguing about him going to school and that is when he decided he was going to attend Radiance behind his fathers back. At home McCutcheon and his dad got into a fight and McCutcheon almost killed him but let him go. The next day his dad "kidnapped" Gemma and told McCutcheon if he didn't fight he would hurt her. So McCutcheon went to Mr.Freedman to help find his sister and he fought that night to meet his fathers demands. He lost the fight on purpose so the priest would kill his dad but he got away and told on the priest and he was arrested. While he was fighting the  FBI found his sister and his mother, which he had not seen in years. He was reunited with his family and he had his first girlfriend in Kaitlyn at Radiance. Unfortunately one day the FBI came and told McCutcheon his friends Nate-Neck and Klowner had been killed and he was a suspected target. So in the end McCutcheon, his sister, and his mom had to be in witness protection and he left Kaitlyn with no explanation of why he had to leave.

I would rate this a 8/10 because it is very interesting and it hooks you. I rank it this high because it really made me wanna find out what happened next. I would recommend this book to other people because it is an exciting story. Also it may relate to people in the way that they live at home.
