Today it was very exciting to get to know, experience and try out the music of another culture. Music is an important part of preserving your own culture. It arouses emotions, gives strength and power, connects people and awakens memories. Playing a "drum" looks so easy, but when you try it yourself, you realize how difficult it is to get the rhythms right. Only then you understand how difficult it must be for students to learn new things and you can empathize with them much better. Playing this music yourself brings it to life and you still want to learn much more about this culture.

What I have learning today is what it feels like being a lousy student. Well, I tried hard, but found it so difficult! What if this Would have been a subject in school and you would be graded? You didn’t get it the first lesson and next lesson will be even harder😉. Maybe you haven’t got a gwoka at home to practise on and maybe you don’t know anyone who can help you…

First times.. They mean so much in everyone's life. Today was my first time not only learning to play but also immersing in a different culture. This was a unique experience which has shown how important it is to be open-minded, willing to experience something new, believing in yourself and not putting boundaries around. Not only does it create fantastic memories, but it also develops self-confidence, tolerance and creativity.

Music can be relaxing, but it can also be a powerful tool in combating oppression.
Whether you hit the beat or not, it’s important that you can feel what it means to play together, with an instrument completely unfamiliar to you.
Music is great way to get to know other cultures, learn tolerance and patience.
