https://www.engvid.com/english-teacher/ronnie/I’ve used this website on numerous occasions, mainly to assist me with learning grammar. I would say it is for beginner to intermediate depending on the subject. The advantages are that you can watch it over and over, and the presentation is fun. One small dis-advantage is that the teacher is Canadian, so some of the terms are Canadian-American, but she does explain this when it comes up and will advise how the English say it. I would recommend it as there are many teachers with different styles on this site. Something for everyone.

Name of resource
Storybird

Type of activity (reading, listening, speaking, writing, language, game, song, video)
Writing

What kind of learner is it for?
Likely for someone with at least an intermediate grasp of the language already. It would be ideal for a creative self-starter in a tutoring situation, I think.

What’s good about it?
It fuels the imaginative and creative juices and would allow the instructor to readily spot problems in the learner’s writing ability in English.

Possible disadvantages
It’s not a one-size-fits-all activity. Personally, I’d like this a lot if I were the one learning a language (assuming I already had a basic grasp of the essentials). But some might find it intimidating and really not all the helpful if they are looking for the most practical ways to use a language.

Would you recommend it?
Yes
Why/Why not?
Because for the right student, it could really help him or her reach the next level.

Then the web-interface would make you select characters, setting, music etc.
This would mainly be for primary students as the site is still fairly limited at this point but if they develop it in the right direction it could interest secondary school students.
It really makes learners use their imagination which is something that is often lacking in education.
Because of the limitations of the site learners would quickly get bored if this was done too often but once in a while it could be good.
In conclusion I would recommend it because it is really unique and very rewarding for young students to see their creation.

Natalia Dowding

I chose a video clip bbc world news. This website provides a wealth of material and in a rather concise form, so it easy for students to work with it. This video is for the students of intermediate level. The focus would be on listening comprehension and new vocabulary. I would also encourage students to discuss the topic in groups. The advantage of this website is the variety of material of a good quality which helps with comprehension and new vocabulary. Another advantage is that the transcription is available. The disadvantage is that students might need more everyday conversational language which is missing here. So I think this is a very good resource and would recommend to use it together with other resources, such as envid.com .
