The amendment was made on janurary 16,1919.people would throw alcohol in the suers, so people wouldn´t be able to drink it.  A lot of people think it is cool to drink alcohol, but the truth is that it is more harmful than cool. in the 1900s there was this group called the temperance. They tried to stop people from drinking alcohol. Even when alcohol was prhohibited people would still make alcohol and smuggle it in to the cities. These people were called bottleggers. There  was a famous ganster from chicago selling  illegal alcohol drinks named Al  Capone of Chicago. He made at least 60 million dollars selling alcohol. In the end people saw that nobody was listining to the 18th amendment, so they made the twenty-first amendment saying that this amendent repealed the 18th amendment.

The tax is called a poll tax. with the poll tax people wouldn't waist there money on a president. The poll tax was $1.50. If I had to pay a poll tax to vote I wouldn't even vote.  Before the 24th amendment people would have to pay $1.75 to register to vote and $1.50 as the tax. When they had the poll tax people raged and boycotted about it. People had signs that said "PAY NO POLL TAX!"
