Having previously been so envious of Medusa's hair, Athena cursed it, turning it into a head of poisonous snakes. Poseidon, the sea god, encountered Medusa one day and he immediately became fascinated with her. Medusa wanted to keep her purity and remain the priestess of Athena's temple,she continually turned down Poseidon.
