Content analysis is a systematic, objective and quantitative method that is applied to study and analyse communication for the aim of measuring variables.(Kerlinger, 2000) This study is going to use content analysis to understand how Li Ziqi prevents the idealistic rural life scene to the Chinese audience.
In this research, the 20 most popular videos (having the most views) on Li Ziqi's Youtube account will be taken as the analysing object. The videos are divided into 2 categories: food videos and handicraft videos. The theory of "structure of feeling" (Williams, 2001) will be used in coding. Also, the changing trend of her videos' comments, likes and views from 2017 to 2019 will be taken as reference.

Since Li Ziqi became a YouTube blogger in 2017, she has become more and more popular. Her fans and the number of views, likes and comments on her videos are constantly increasing. The reason for this phenomenon is that Li Ziqi relies on her previous experience in rural life, and on the basis of a deep insight into the inner needs of the current urbanites, the Chinese traditional food and handicrafts she makes produce and display pictures of pastoral life for the audience. Using verbal and non-verbal signs she constructs a kind of idealistic rural imagination for the audience, providing emotional massage for the audience in the accelerating society.

The representation of modern acceleration in Li Ziqi's videos

The social acceleration is the core process of modernity. (Rosa, 2013) It has brought about tremendous changes in contemporary China. Since the reform and opening up, China’s social development has been changing with each passing day. Among Chinese people a kind of anxiety of fear of falling has quietly grown. Max Weber once said that some social forces will be summoned to fight against capitalism when analyzing the process of the struggle between capitalism and traditional society. (Weber, 1895) When everyone is involved in the world of accelaration, the ‘traditional world’ is called out to fight against ‘accelerating society’. Li Ziqi, a girl from the countryside made a series of short videos to reconstruct and spread the rural life advocating the ancient style. She has won the popularity of thousands of video viewers all over the world and has become the super IP of many kinds of social platforms. The paper is going to research on how Li Ziqi constructs the scene of idealistic rural life for audience in the context of accelerating society.
