I had to really pay attention to where the contour lines (and shadows)  fell into place. There is minimal shading (Minus the background curtains and blinds) and more, really small cross hatching to create a shade. I noticed in my last drawing that sketchy lines created texture in my shadows, I drew a grid this time and cross hatched the little spaces and tried to smooth it out. I demonstrated gradient with cross hatch values on the bottom of the hand and inside the square vase to the right. I attempted this one twice.  I made the mistake of treating this medium like a pencil. Charcoal is delicate and you have to treat it as such. Thats why I struggled with the logs. If forces you to really think about what you're going to lay down first I found myself working gentler. I am more satisfied with the result of this one because of the proportions. Also, charcoal has now become my favorite medium.
