Sixteen years on the streets and you see a lot. But all the wrong sights, not the sights you want to see."
Ponyboy's thoughts reveal that he feels as though Johnny's life has been full, but it hasn't been filled with the experiences that would have truly made his life worthwhile. He's learned to be street smart, but this isn't something that he can look back on at the end of his life and say that it was meaningful.

Breelyn Webster
On page 122, the nurse comes in and says, “your mother’s here to see you.” This is important because throughout the whole book Johnny’s mother hasn’t been a huge, positive part in his life, so when Johnny’s mother comes, this can lead us to infer that she wants to be in his life, or something else similar. She might also be there just to see Johnny. She might have realized that he could have died right then and there and she wouldn’t have got to say goodbye, or have been influenced in a positive way by her. She also might have given Ponyboy and them a dirty look because she thinks that they are the reason Johnny is dying.

Page 129 “can you see the sunset real good from the West Side?”
It’s mentions sunsets a lot through the book and that’s like the good part of Pony’s and Cherry’s day because they both like the sunsets and they were talking about seeing it from different sides of the town. Then they realize that it’s the same sunset that they both see.

Page 123- “She saw us and gave us such a look of hatred that I almost backed up.”
I think this is significant because this thought just goes to show how much Johnny’s mother really doesn't care about him, especially if she did this to his friends.

Page 122-"East side teaches you how to shut off your emotions. If you didn’t, you would explode.” I think this is a key idea because Johnny didn’t shut down his emotions, maybe that’s why he is so sensitive. This is also why Johnny is so fearful about almost everything. Things would be a little different if Johnny was tough like Dally because he wouldn’t be that scared of his parents anymore, or he wouldn’t be in the hospital.

Page 121 “He lay breathing heavily for a moment. “I’m pretty bad off ant I,Pony?” “You’ll be okay,” I said with fake cheerfulness.”

Pony keeps lying to himself again. Pony boy is always lying to himself and he is kind of in his own world. This is a problem because when it all comes to Pony about Johnny and Dally it is going to hit him hard. It will hurt him more than it would if he where to come back to reality now. The only reason it would hurt him more because worse things can happen over time.

Page 120- “He wants a copy of Gone with the Wind so I can read it to him” I explained.
I feel like this is symbolism because maybe the book is something that represents Ponyboy and Johnny’s friendship. The book has brought them really close and Johnny got the book for Ponyboy and now Johnny wants Ponyboy to get book so they can read it together.

On page 121 Johnny says “I’m pretty bad ain’t I pony? You’ll be okay.” Pony says. I noticed that pony is lying to himself again. He is doing this because I think that he thinks that it was his fault so he lies to himself to make him think that everything will be okay although they probably won’t.
