This sing denounce the racism by using a metaphor, they compare the black and white people with the piano keyboard, they say:
“Ebony and ivory live together
In perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano keyboard”.

They say this because in a piano keyboard, there are two colors, the ebony wich represent the black people end the ivory for the white people . There is an equality between the two colors in the piano keyboard so Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder aim at condemning the differences of the black people and the white people, they want every people (black and white) are not discriminate.

They sing in a happy tone to show of all the world that an important battle for the black people and maybe since they know it was the end soon of the discrimination and the racism
