I chose the Copacabana because it talks about a love triangle between Lola, Tony and Rico. In all my sons there is also a love triangle between Ann, Larry and Chris. The original couple in each scenario is Lola and Tony and Ann and Larry. It’s not exactly the same, because at the song Rico was jealous of them so he killed Tony, and in the story Larry went missing in the military and presumed dead, so as the time passed by Chris fell for Ann. But it is very close.

I chose the song becuase i think it represent the scene in the beginning of act one where mother and chris argue about if planting the tree was too soon as she is convinced larry is still alive, she isolated herself emotionally from the family and i think the song represents that. One example from the song is the line:

“My shadow's the only one that walks beside me” i think it represents that mother “walks” alone and that the path is refusing to believe larry is dead

I chose this song because in the third verse the singer sings about reading something about a widowed wife and not remembering if he cried. It remind me of Larry that died in the military and Ann. Although they were not married, they were together and it’s similar to the song.

In addition the song is about love and music that died on an unknown day/ time. The book is also about love, and it’s unknown when exactly Larry died so it’s similar.

Most of Kate's charecterisation is focused on her waiting for Larry, her son who became a USAAF bomber pilot and went missing in ww2 to come home. For act one almost all of hee interactions with the other characters are in some way related to Larry. She's mad they put a tree uo in his memory, she's mad at chris for saying it's time to let go, she believed Ann was waiting for Larry, she consulted frank's astrology nonsense to see if the stars prove he couldn't have died and she even kept shining his shoes. From this we can tell nothing will kake mom happier than to see Larry again. The song is also about a soldier coming back from war just as Larry is supposed to. And the crowds waiting to greet Johnny seem just as jubilant as Kate will be when (if) the eventual reunion comes to pas.s
