The ultimate goal of Strategic Planning Team 2 (SPT 2) is generating profit. Based on profit, SPT 2's solutions are

Creating labor unions,

Investing in marketing, and

Finding less sensitive countries.

We found that he overall views and motivation of the opposing team was solely based on the company's interests with very little concern on the ethical aspect.

As for allowing the establishment of the labor union, SPT 2 suggested that Hankook Textiles should see improvements in terms of minimum loss of profit, better communication, and reputation. Another solution, investing in marketing, was also suggested on the ability to make the public pay more attention to low prices rather than work conditions, exemplified with the situation of corporations such as SHEIN and H&M. Regrading the last solution, SPT 2 suggested that finding less sensitive countries, other than Laos, has many opportunities because a lot of governments will want Hankook Textiles factory with low wages. Therefore, This solution also accounts for minimum loss of profit. However, the withdrawal of Laos offshore facility and searching for other countries to invest does not sound like a credible or rational solution to our team. In addition, no precedence and not enough evidence was provided for this. And SPT 2 admitted the latter solution may cause social problems.

Both teams proceeded in a systematic manner, outlining such important topics as the problem analysis, values and perspectives as well as solutions and case studies.
Our main areas of debate include:

the orientation and direction of the company's goal; whether the ethical perspective or financial-centered profit-generating perspective should take precedence.

the option of increasing wages; where the management of consequential cash leakage, compensation via alternatives, and immediate goals were discussed. Both teams agreed that Hankook Textiles could not possibly fulfill the demands for wages easily and right away.

As strict as it may sound, our team's agreement criteria are based on:

the alignment of the proposed solution with our minimum conditions

the promotion of ethical unitarianism, and

reasearch studies and data evidences supporting the proposed solutions.

We carefully listened to the presentation and asked questions on their views and inquired evidences. Our team's opinions and values, i.e., to vouch for a more ethically-inclined resolution, has very few to no significant changes due primarily to the opposing team's lack of crucial data support, and ignorance on ethical concern in their arguments and persuasion.

Throughout the discussion, our team relentlessly pressed for justification of SPT 2's three proposed solutions. Upon completing the discussion, solutions of establishing a labour union, multi-stakeholder negotiations, stakeholder investments, and improving better working conditions, which both team have in common, have been agreed to adopt as immediate measures for short-term goal achievement. Ethical Management Team also contributed on the case by suggesting compensations for postponing wage increases (providing stocks and shares, revising the hierarchy, leisure facilities and employee benefits).

With both teams agreeing that Integration of Automation could be the best possible long-term aim for our solution, we also tried to find a common ground for solutions that can be executed to mitigate the situation on a more immediate basis. EMT 4 and SPT 2 also showed agreement on the fact that given the current situation of the company, increasing the workers' wages right away is not just a possible option. We focused more on adopting compensations for this in the meanwhile.

Due to the fact that our team's approach in implementing some of our solutions have changed according to the peer review during Group Discussion II, we are essentially planning to concentrate more on the immediate short-term solutions we have adopted, most of the research in the following days will take place on this matter.
Furthermore, since our fundamental perspectives were proven to be valid arguments, we will pertain these in the presentation session to the board. With the solution of Integration of Automation being the most viable and pratical one yet, we will decide on several key datas to bring to Session 4.

On the F2F presentation preparation day (09/20, Wed), we will prepare the necessary steps in reference to the plan draft we provided in the previous padlet submission, which will be included here to serve as a checklist.
Session 4

<del>Rework solutions based on the criticisms and agreements through Session 3 </del>(DONE)

Research key datas for recent solutions and exchange opinions within the group

Reassess technical expertise for the presentation (Clickshare, etc.)

Script writing and receiving feedbacks

Powerpoint / visual materials preparation for the presentation material submission, and editing and providing feedbacks and comments

Rehearsal on time-management and Q&A session.

Points of Conflict between EMT4 and SPT2

Conflicting Ideas between EMT 4 and SPT 2 is essentially profit (SPT 2) versus ethical balance (EMT 4). The essential point of conflict is this tension, but if we think about the points of conflict a little bit more, there are additionally two points of conflict in today's meeting.
The first detail is as follows:
SPT2: It is better to focus on image reform through marketing instead of raising wages since consumers focus on lower prices than the reputation of companies.
EMT4: Reputation is a matter that needs to be resolved through ethical practices rather than diversion of customers' attention.
The second detail is as follows:
SPT2: This problem arises because Laos is sensitive to wages, so it should move to a country that is less sensitive to wages.
EMT4: Relocating a factory is actually more unreasonable because it has to suffer a large loss due mostly to re-offshoring.
