The three different kinds of conflict in "Murtagh" are man vs. supernatural, Man vs. self, and man vs. society. In this book, Murtagh has a lot of self-doubt, leading him to make brash actions that leave others hurt. This book is set in a fantasy world, so Murtagh constantly goes against things that are not natural in our world. And finally man vs society, Murtagh is viewed as a villain by the whole world since the world doesn't know the full truth about him.

Theme

"I refuse to be defined by my past or the expectations of others. I will choose my path, even if it means facing the darkness alone." I believe the theme of this book is the battle between one's self and one's predetermined role in society. In the book, Murtagh is viewed as a villain for the world as he "went against" the main character in the previous books. Because of this Murtagh has to deal with the consequences of everyone viewing him as a villain and he starts believing they are true and starts seeing himself as a villain. By the end of the book though Murtagh starts to change himself for the better no longer believing he is truly a villain and he can change for the better.

Title's meaning

The title itself doesn't have that much meaning but the symbols do. In the title, there is an incomplete circle representing a cycle of time. This represents Murtagh's growth as a character and how he started to view himself as a different person resetting his pass just like the cycle.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy. This book and this entire series have some of the best world-building I've ever seen in a fantasy series. Just make sure you read the previous books.

Just like that plant fights for sunlight, Murtagh struggles to find his way in a world that tries to define him. It’s a reminder that even in tough situations, it’s important to follow your path and be true to yourself.
