Some know from an early age that they want to home educate their child.which they may have philosophical or religious reasons. Another reason maybe if the child has very special needs or Is unhappy with going to school in some way

Qualitative data is descriptive data based around characterisation, but unlike quantitative data it can't be measured or counted. This makes it very hard to analyse and gather generalisations, however it is useful for individual studies or studies that gather opinions and feelings that require in-depth research.

You can read it and it has measurable data in it, it doesn't have that many opinions in it. Pros of using quantative data is that research methods are surveys, questionnaires and telephone interviews so it's very reliable and fairly cheap. Cons of using quantative data are you don't get specific detail.

Functionalists believe that the nuclear family benefits society, for example George Murdock (1949) argued that the family performs four basic functions, he refers to these as 'sexual', 'reproductive', 'economic' and 'educational' functions. He also believes that the family has the responsibility to transmit society's way of life, norms and values to the younger members. On the other hand, the feminist's believe that the family is a bad influence on women as marriage only benefits the man. Their focus is on men and the patriarchal nature of society.

One type of school is a Grammer school, this is where children aged 11 get admitted into a school based on there high SATS test results.

Material deprivation refers to the inability for individuals or households to afford the average luxuries.

An example of this is not having pens, paper or books at home.

This can effect somebody's education because they do not have the facilities to continue or complete any given piece of work at home. This could put a restraint on the child's knowledge.

Some people may choose to educate their children at home because their children maybe getting bullied. Or they may have philosophical or religious reasons for this. Or they may have been home educated themselves or raised in situations in which education wasn't focused on a traditional school environment - their parents may have travelled a lot.
