         <description><![CDATA[<p>In the 1920's Germany was in turmoil, due to the loss of world war 1. as a result of losing the war Germany's empire was collapsing. </p><p><br></p><p>I think this was important because this is when a lot of the social and political changes occurred. in this post war environment is when "antisemitism found fertile ground."</p>]]></description>

         <title>Hitler became chancellor 1933</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>on January 30th 1933 Hitler became chancellor. this caused him to have much power over the Germans and jewish people. it turned from multi-party to one-party, and the Jewish people from citizens, to outcasts. </p><p>Hitler and the natzis turned Germany from a democracy into a dictatorship. </p><p><br/></p><p>I think this is important because this is when Hitler got power, which meant now he could have control and basically do whatever he wanted and he did. </p>]]></description>

         <title>First Concentration Camp 1933</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Dachau was the first concentration camp opened by the natzi government. By the end of 1933, 4,800 prisoners were being held there. Almost all imprisoned for political reasons. </p><p><br/></p><p>I think this is important because this is when they started imprisoning people for just having different views from them. </p>]]></description>

         <title>Night of the broken glass 1938 </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The night of November 9th and 10th 1938, the natzis organized violence toward the Jewish people. this caused a nation wide riot and became known as the night of the broken glass. it was supposed to look like an unorganized / unplanned outburst. But in reality it was a state sponsored vandalism and arson. they set hundreds of synagogues, broke into homes and destroyed their things. </p><p><br></p><p>I think this is important because it truly showed how terrible the natzis treated the Jewish people. </p>]]></description>

There were no limits or restraints on Hitler's authority. </p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>I think this impacted everyone because now Hitler had free range and was in control of everything. No one could stop him. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Germans attacked Poland with "lightning warfare." this caused great Britain and France (the allies) to step in.  on September 3rd they declared war on Germany. the United States vowed to stay neutral. Then world war two began in europe. </p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>I think this is significant because now it was war it wasn't just the Germans wanting power.</p>]]></description>

This was jewish children being taken to safety from natzi territory. betwenn 9000 to 10000 children  left natzi territory on kindertransports.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>i think this is important because it shows how much danger everyone was in and also the sorrow children and their families had to endure leaving there parents and family behind</p>]]></description>

         <title>st. louis sails- 1939</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>On May 13 1939 the german passenger ship left hamburg for havana, ciba carrying 937 mostly jewish refugees. the cuban government refused to allow most of the passengers to land, saying they did not have the right papers/paperwork. Canada and the united states refused as well. the passengers were sent to other places such as, new england, france, belgium, ect. 2/3 of them survived the holocaust. </p><p><br></p><p>I think this is important because it showed the struggle to find safety, during this time.  </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Natzi germany and the soviet union signed a secret pact to not attack each other for 10 years. in the secret protocol the two countries agreed to divide eastern europe. august 23rd, 1939</p><p><br/></p><p>i think this is important because it shows how sneaky and dishonest the natzis were, and how they got their through cheating and lying. </p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>on may 10th 1933, the antisemetic pro-natzi university students throughout all of germany burned hundreds and thousands of books from public, private, schools and libraries. they carried torches and walked the streets. the schools targeted jewish or "un-german" books. </p><p><br></p><p>I think this is important because it shows that they wanted to take away the basic thing as learning to read or just reading on a daily basis away from all jewish people.  for no good reason </p>]]></description>
