When he studied at the Ixelles Municipal School, his favourite subject used to be sketching the German soldiers who occupied Belgium during the first world war. His interests as an artist and cartoonist led him to get admission at the Ecole Siant Luc art school in 1925.

He joined boys Scout group in his school days and later he started his career as an illustrator with Scouting  Magazines. He wrote Tintin in 1929 and established Tintin magazine in 1946. Herge was a great lover of Jazz Music , fond of gardening and used to spend considerabke amount of time during the day repying to fans' letters.He believed "Not replying to children's letters would be to betray their dreams.” In his memory Herge museum was set up in the south of Brussels in 2009.

Herge’s inspiration was Palle Huld we guess,
But some people said it was someone else.
I am certain that we cannot solve the case,
until Herge himself, to us he tells. 
Oh! Who is it, what is it? 
Who is the inspiration?
We will not know until we go to Herge’s station.

to, The famous Herge Museum

Blistering Barnacles, thundering typhoons! These are some of the nonsensical terms Herge used to make his stories and writing style hilarious and of course interesting. The famous Captain Haddock in Tintin would say all these words to make himself the most amusing and amazing one among all.
