The United States removed the Native Americans with the Indian Removal Act and all other European influence in order to maintain American dominance from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast. Over the years they would purchase land from European countries such as Alaska from Russia and Oregon from Britain. They also removed Mexican influence in the region through the Mexican-American war. This made westward expansion easier for America and also made sure that all the land was controlled by America and not interfered with by any other group.
