Nikolai Petrov is 23 and still lives with his mom. He lives in the city in a small house. It is not much but they are great for it. His mother is single because of her father's passing due to bad living conditions and not good enough medicine. Nikolai does not have a job. He is able to read and write but he is not the best at it. Because he does not have a job that means his mom is the only one in the house that has a job. So she is the only source of income. Because he does not have a job it is making them even deeper in poverty and they are going to end up with no food and no home.

Nikolai worriedly and reluctantly decided to go to war. He felt he could help his country in this fight. He wants his country to be successful so they can help their own people afterward. He just wants the people in his country to be ok and not live as bad of lives there own or worse like the poor farmers or even worse homeless. But his mom is not happy about his decision to go to war. She does not want him to die or get hurt because he is all she has left. He also does not want to leave because of her older age and she will be by herself. But he decides to go anyway, he can protect his people and get money for his mom. It also provides food for him so it is one less mouth to feed at home. Now he is getting ready to say goodbye to his mom for what might be the last time.

He is now heading into battle and he is very nervous and worried that he might lose one of the things that he adores most, his own life. He is getting ready for this battle he has not had much training but he is still holding hope in his heart for the people of his own country and most importantly his own mom. While getting ready he sends a letter and money to his mom about how this first fight he is about to go in might be his last. He then tells her, "Do not worry about me, just keep living so I can be happy and be proud that I at least did something for you and the country before I leave this world." While in battle he is under an immense amount of stress. But it is looking good for them. He has taken lives and does not like thinking about that. He thinks that it is going well so far they are winning with the first assault the second team needs to just come in. But the communication is bad and the leadership skills are not good, the second assault team is now dying. He is now worried for his life. They are fighting for their lives. A retreat is called. He was lucky enough to not get damaged physically by this fight but he is damaged mentally and this battle will stay in his mind forever.

Finally returning home

He was finally returning home. He knew he had fought and made his mother proud. He was on a bus home just thinking about his moms face and how happy she was gonna be when he walked through the door. But there was another thought in his head that was burning through his skull like a hot bullet. That was the amount of people he had to kill. He was also thinking about the fact that he did all that and was fine all that time just to get sent home because of the friendly fire. It is a real thing and it happens far more often than he knew. He was upset about it but at the same time he was happy to go home. Their was so many emotions rushing through his head he did not know what to think. He was right outside of his house when he randomly started to sweat. He did not know what was happening. He then began to shake. He did not know what was going on but he was having a panic attack because he did not know what to think. He was finally home. He was finally safe. But his body did not think so. He walked in side his house and saw his mother and gave her a big hug. He then remembered what he went into the war for in the first place. After the war, Russia was in a bad place. But that did not stop him. He got a job at a local store and worked day after day to help his mother. One day he made a big break and moved out of Russia to go explore the world. He took his mother with him. They traveled and ended up settling in the USA. Although he belved he escaped the past and the things that he went through he still had many sleepless nights. He will have to live with PTSD for the rest of his life.

The second battle, The battle of Brusilov Offensive

He was going into this battle already shaken up from what had happened last battle. All the people he saw fade away in front of his eyes. All the lives that he had to take. It was all very gruesome. He did not know if he wanted to continue on. He could have died. It could have been over in the blink of an eye and there was nothing he could have done about it. He would go on to think about this for a while. He was on a truck on the way to his next battlefield. He drifted off into a sleep for a little bit. About an hour later he woke up drenched in a cold sweat. He was having a nightmare about the things he had seen not very long ago. He started to freak out but managed to calm himself down enough to compose himself for battle. He knew that this was going to be one of the most important battles yet. It was being led by a very formidable person named General Aleksey Brusilov. He was Russia's shot at making a big name for themselves. he was finally ready for battle. The battle began on June 4th and ended in late September. He made it through all the time killing many many people. But not really being injured at all. It was finally declared that they had won the battle against the Astro-Hungarians. The day before they were about to leave he was shot in the kneecap by friendly fire causing him to be sent back home on injury leave. Some say it was on purpose but it was most definitely an accident. He left proud but also not at the same time.

When the war was first declared and how he feels about it.

Nikolai was a very strange man that had very different opinions on a lot of different things. But one thing that he knew for sure is that he did not want his country to go into war. He loved Russia but more importantly, he loved his mother and wanted to do anything he could to protect her. He knew the things that this war could bring. The damages could be immense. They were already in poverty as it is and Russia's economical state was not good what so ever. They were already on the brink of collapse and here he saw a great war was declared across all of Europe. Although he knew it was not a good idea he signed up right away. He did not have a job and he wanted a way to make his mother and passed-away father proud. That was exactly what he was going to do. He knew he could be something and help his people. But he did not know if he wanted to take the life of another person. He had really deep feelings and cared about a lot of people. But if it was best for his country he would do it. All though he feels this strongly about it he still needs to run it by his mother so he is still a bit weary about it.
