Dali knew how to work his prodigious art skills, outlandish ideas and wonky persona to make the most for himself as an entrepreneur. Publicity and money apparently mattered so much to Dalí that he utilized his waxed, upturned mustache to endorse a variety products for French and American television commercials. This also. reflected in the variety of his artwork, which extended beyond surreal paintings to performance art and more classical genres.

Although at first he was welcomed into the community of surrealists, the tight-knit group eventually objected to his work, personal choices and political opinions which conflicted with the fundamentals of surrealism.
