    The Tribute Money
    • Three parts of one story
    • Centre: jesus telling Peter to get money from the fish. Peter has a confused/agitated expression. Apostles form a semi circle around jesus
    • Linear/mathematical perspective. Jesus’s head is vanishing point
    • Chiaroscuro on clothing 
    • No unessecary details/decoration
    • Left: peter getting money from the fishes mouth. Painting in dark tones to show he is further behind, forehortening
    • Right: peter is paying the tax collector. Tax collector is wearing florentine style clothes, peter and apostles wear greek style clothes

    Technique:

    - Fresco: wet plaster would harden with the painted image
    - String and Nails: masaccio would hammer nails into the wall and attach string to line up in relation to the vanishing point (used for perspective)
    - Shade and Tone: very dark tones, shading used to give the illusion of depth within the painting, used in relation to the vanishing point
    - Colour: reds, blues, browns, whites, blacks, everything other than the people are muted
    - Drapery: Masaccio used tone and shade like above to create the illusion of wrinkles and folds in clothing
    - Chiaroscuro: use of colour and light

    Human Body:

    - Anatomy: Masaccio had a great understanding of the human anatomy and we can see this throughout his paintings, the body of jesus is well proportioned
    - Facial features/expression: In studying the human anatomy, Masaccio was able to create realistic faces and could express emotions easily
    - Foreshortening: used, again, for the illusion of perspective/depth/human anatomy
