Hanna Reburn

Vitamin D is synthesized when the skin is exposed to ultraviolet light. In the epidermis there is a kind of pre-vitamin D and when your skin is exposed, it activates and thus makes its way through the blood stream, to the liver and kidney.

Mrpentifallo2150

There is a correlation between vitamin D and melanin. Melanin protects the skin against UV light. But by blocking the sun's rays, melanin effects the skin's ability to activate pre-vitamin D. So the more melanin, the less vitamin D you produce.

Sorce:
http://www.slideshare.net/nanabil0107/what-are-the-effects-of-skin-melanin-on-vitamin-d-absorption
