When I began my new job in August '20, my boss handed me the Distance Learning Playbook. I pored over the book, treating it like my bible. I needed it, being overwhelmed in my new job. But then I got busy. This morning when I read our first module I had to think for a minute where I put it.

Sometimes a course is valuable because it makes me set aside time for reflection, discussion, and planning. Sometimes I look at something I have seen before, but understand it in a new way. And often in a class I learn new things. I like it when a class lets me do all three.

With that said, here are my goals:
- collaborate with my peers so we support each other in our learning journey.
- reflect on the past year.
- use my reflections to set specific, actionable goals for next year.
- remember always to keep student learning as the primary focus.

First of all I have to say to Amy that you write SO WELL. I read your posts and think "Ya, that is exactly how I feel", so thank you for putting into words what I struggle to do.

This course has already been valuable to me. After completing just part of module one, I realize that the issues I encountered were way more widespread than just my school. I think that this course will be valuable because we have those similar issues and can begin to address them and come up with possible ways to solve some of them. My intention is (like Amy said) to reflect on the past year and to start developing a "toolbox" to help students develop some of the skills we discovered they were lacking (and that I was lacking as well!!)

We've all been doing it, albeit in different ways. That's what will make this course so great--the ability to share ideas and reflect on our own teaching so that we can be our best in the future!

I believe that this course will be valuable to me in many ways but the one way which I can see already is as a reflection on the past year and a half. For the past 18 months we have all been on the go, in front of a classroom and in front of a zoom camera for what felt like 25 hours a day. In just this first module I have had more time to look back on the last school year and really reflect on how it made me feel, what my greatest challenges were and what aspects of it benefitted me. Without this course I don't know when I would have done that!

My intention for this course is to continue to become an overall better educator. I think adding to our toolbox is something that we should never stop doing. I learned this year that there are a ton of skills that I am still missing when it comes to educating my students. I signed up for this class because if I expect my students to give me 100% of their time, effort and ability I need to be able to do the same for them!

This course will be valuable to me in several ways. First of all, just being able to reflect during a time when life has slowed its frenetic pace will benefit my teaching next year. I always find the time to reflect during summer curriculum work to be so useful. Another aspect of the class that will be valuable is that it is not just theoretical, but asks that I create something tangible that I can use next school year.
I have a couple of goals for this class. First of all, I hope that I can collaborate and learn from the other teachers' rich and varied experiences with remote teaching. That leads me to my second goal of expanding my teaching toolkit to include ways to engage more students, while keeping in mind that it is important not to overwhelm/frustrate them.

Having finished my 6th year I feel as though I have learned more in the past year then I have in the previous 5. I also believe the world and education are changing adnas educators we need to be as in tune with those changes as possible. I also believe this course to be valuable because it allows me to connect with other educators and share experiences.

With that being said, my intentions and goals for this course include, building relationships with other educators, learning from one another on how to incorporate more technology into the classroom when appropriate and reflecting on this past year of remote learning and in person teaching and how it has changed me as an educator for the better.

One of the things I noticed with my students and their virtual learning is that the majority of the kids were disinterested in learning and disregulated. After reading the introduction to The Distance Learning Playbook, I realized that the issues were of equity, not interest. I loved how Hattie wrote in his article of teachers becoming triage nurses; rather than just teaching new material, teachers should be directing their learning and their thinking. I hope this class helps me improve with this over virtual learning. I am very much a director, rather than a talk-atter, in the brick and mortar classroom, but transferring that to virtual learning has been difficult for me. As in the video, I hope to learn the "dialect" of remote teaching.

Another way I am hoping this class will help me is by actually creating a tangible product that I can use next year. I am a learner by actively doing as I learn, so I am looking forward to creating something useful.

Lastly, I am looking forward to working with a community of teachers and educators who had the same struggles I did while teaching remotely. I look forward to hearing how others worked through their struggles and make virtual teaching successful for themselves and their students. I am hoping there are some more primary grade teachers involved in the class, as the needs of primary students are very different from middle or high school students. I'd love to connect with anybody who works with young children!

This course will be valuable to be in a variety of ways. For starters, I appreciate being on the learning end of assignments for a change. This is eye-opening and important. I like how these first three assignments have been set up, which is making me reflect on what I did with my students for the past year and a quarter. I'm much more aware of the mistakes I made designing lessons, and I'm committed to doing better in the future. I predict that the work in this course and the feedback that I will receive will make me a better teacher moving forward.

I believe this course will be valuable to me as it will give me insight on the wins (big and small) that other school districts and teachers across grade levels had that made remote learning successful for them. It would then be my goal to take that back and incorporate them into my own classroom/school practices. This is the new way of teaching we need to take what we learned, build upon it, and keep going.

How do you predict this course might be valuable to you?

I believe that the most valuable aspect of this course will be the ability to learn from peers across the state! I am looking forward to finding out how others navigate the challenges of remote learning and to glean some tips and tricks that I didn't know. I know that the best way to learn is by jumping in and just getting started, and I feel like we all have done plenty of that! Now, it seems like a great time to reflect on what worked and what didn't work so well. To take the lessons from the past year and move forward with new skills and tools.

What are your intentions/goals for your learning in this course?

My goal in signing up for this course was to find new platforms for online learning and to gather new ways of learning the platforms that I am already familiar with. I think that the most likely source of information in this vein will be my fellow classmates who have been working remotely this past year. We've all been doing it, albeit in different ways. That's what will make this course so great--the ability to share ideas and reflect on our own teaching so that we can be our best in the future!

I think this course will give me the tools I need to be able to do my job more effectively should we have to go remote again as well as expand opportunities in educating my students.
My goal is to have new teaching techniques to engage learners in this world of technology as well as I can engage them in the classroom! Having and introducing new and innovative resources will benefit myself and my learners in this ever evolving world that we live in. My intentions would be to share any valuable info I take away from this course, with my students and my colleagues and continue trying to always become a better educator, no matter how long I have been in the game!

I think this course will be valuable to me in that I will get a fuller picture of what it means to be an online teacher. There are things that I already know about online teaching, but there are areas that I am not aware of right now in the areas of perspective and tools. My intentions are to read all of the materials and then apply the principles to my online teaching. I also hope to learn from my peers.
