Several years ago, our junior high school graduating class embarked on an unforgettable trip to Bali. We explored iconic Kuta beach, savored breathtaking sunsets at Jimbaran Beach, and captivating Balinese cultural performances. Amidst the excitement, we indulged in delicious ice cream, local cuisine, and joyful evenings filled with laughter and memories. This trip celebrated not only our academic milestone but also the unbreakable bonds forged during our three-year journey together.

Square Watermelon A Symbol of Excess and Waste

In Japan, there is the creation of the square watermelon, a luxury item that raises questions about the value of novelty and excess. This phenomenon is driven by consumerism and the desire to make something executive. The production process involves meticulous pruning and training, resulting in a visually stunning but impractical fruit.

In my opinion the environmental impact of square watermelons is alarming. Due to the unnatural manufacturing of these watermelons, it goes against Japan's eco-friendly aspirations. In addition, its high price tag of more than 100 US dollars exacerbates the socio-economic divide, as its high price makes this luxury watermelon inaccessible to the majority of people. Although innovative, this square watermelon sacrifices its culinary value. Its unnatural shape affects the fruit's natural sweetness and texture, making it taste and texture less than traditionally grown watermelons. With a very high price and lack of flavor, this watermelon is not worth it.

In the end, traditionally grown watermelons are superior in flavor and texture and have a more affordable price that can be consumed by everyone while boxed watermelons are superior in shape and expensive that can only be consumed by a few.
