Der Tierkot ist höchstwahrscheinlich von den Elefanten und Pferden und deshalb ist die südliche Route am wahrscheinlichsten. 
Die Überquerung ging insgesamt 16 Tage lang und währenddessen verlor er mehrere Elefanten, Soldaten und Reiter.

Hannibal schlug hier 2 römische Armeen tot, indem er sie durch einen Hinterhalt täuscht.
Er stellte Lagerfeuer an verschiedenen Stellen in der Nähe seines Lagers auf, um die Römer zu täuschen. Sie sollten denken, dass Hannibal schon weiter war. Deshalb haben sich die römischen Armeen beeilt und sind trotz Nebel durch einen Engpass gezogen. Doch Hannibal machte sich dies zu nutzen und griff sie an. Er hatte 30.000 Soldaten, davon 22.000 Infanterie und 8.000 Kavaliere. Die Römer waren irritiert, weshalb sie sich einen gewaltigen Nachteil verschafften. Hannibal gewonn die Schlacht und zog weiter.
