The Abolitionist movement was a movement that tried to ban slavery. Slaves were banned in the North as more people made money off of manufacturing and didn't require slaves in order to work. The south in the other hand needed slaves to help in agriculture as the south made most of their money off of farming. Many abolitionists believed that owning slaves were inhumane and wanted equal rights for all races. This oftentimes caused conflicts as the North were against owning slaves while the South needed slaves to help their economy grow. This soon lead to the Civil War which soon ended slavery in the United States.

Many abolitionists were freed slaves and people living in the north. The abolitionists played a big role in ending slavery as they helped many slaves be free and soon ended slavery in general. One of the most successful events that helped free slaves was the the Underground railroad, founded by Harriet Tubman. He helped save more than 300 slaves to freedom and risked his life for what he believed in. Overall, abolitionists helped bring a end to slavery.

Back then, women were not equal as men. Women were treated unfairly and didn't have many rights. Women had lower wages than men, women were not allowed to vote, and many girls were not allowed to go to school. Many women have tried to speak out about being treated unfairly but did not have the authority to do so.

Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton decided to start the first ever women's rights convention in Seneca Falls, New York. They demanded equality for both men and women no matter what race or gender you are. After starting the women's rights movement, women started to have more rights and soon, New York passed laws allowing women to be paid more and keep their property. The women's rights movement helped women have more rights and slowly help make equality a reality.
