A prolific writer and academic, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar said, “However good a constitution may be, if those who are implementing it are not good, it will prove to be bad. However bad a constitution may be, if those implementing it are good, it will prove to be good.” Well sir, you were right. Today after 73 years of Independence is our country really free? Are we really over the reigns of the Britishers? Are the Dalit lives still safe or are the woman of the country safe? To be very honest, we have failed you in many ways Sir but we have also tried to keep our end of the bargain in our flawed manner.
After deliberating and revising several drafts over a period of nearly three years, on this day in 1949 the Constituent Assembly formally adopted the Constitution of India. While many levied criticism at the final text of the Constitution, one common thread in the speeches was praise for key members in the constitution-making process, like B. R. Ambedkar and B. N. Rau. Ambedkar viewed the Constitution as a source of social transformation. Rau saw it as way to discipline Indian politics to focus on governance, rather than as an endorsement of any political ideology. Despite their differing constitutional visions, both played significant roles in the making of the Indian Constitution. Let's take a pledge this Constitution Day that we will abide by the very essence of the Constitution of India.

CONSTITUTIONAL VALUES:

Sovereignty: You may have read the Preamble. It declares India “a sovereign socialist secular democratic republic”. Being sovereign means having complete political freedom and being the supreme authority

.Secularism: We all are pleased when anyone says that India is home to almost all major religions in the world. In the context of this plurality (means more than one or two; many), secularism is seen as a great constitutional value.

Justice: At times you may also realize that living in a democratic system alone does not ensure justice to citizens in all its totality. Even now we find a number of cases where not only social and economic justice but also political justice is denied.
