This character’s name is Duncan and he is from the movie “Dune”. What makes him self reliant is that he is fearless and he is not afraid to do things on his own. In the movie, he locks the door to the other side when the enemies are attacking so his friends could escape. He relied on himself to take care of all of the enemies to help his friends out.
The excerpt states “Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string.” Duncan trusted himself and his own instincts in his life experience to quickly act and make a decision.

  • Chris McCandless embodies these principles by how he went against society's norms and did what he thought was right and what he wanted to do. Instead of going to work a 9 to 5 job, live in a hotel, and pay for meals, he decided he wanted to be adventurous and live life on the edge. He trusted himself to do it and didn’t listen to what others said or thought about him.
